Eringobragh1916 Report 28 Sep 2011 18:04

Elaine....This is what you know so far...

Michael Curran married an Eliza.Lakes...(no one can find the marriage ) you have definate proof from the headstone that Eliz.was nee Lakes.
You have Eliz.coming from Leighlinbridge...
How do you know that..?
Leighlinbridge Town was in part In Idrone East and part Idrone West..the Civil Parishes (for Registration Purposes) differ.
.
Idrone East...Civil Parish ...Dunleckny (Dunleckney) spellings differ depending on time frame.
Idrone West...Civil Parish...Wells.

Michael and Eliz.lived Boherduff..(1901/1911)....Idrone East...CP...Dunleckny.

The "Lakes"..that show on the 1901/1911 Census appear to be in the Old Leighlin area and Seskin/Seskinryan....CP..Old Leighlin
Seskinryan CP is Dunleckny.

Given that Lakes is not a Carlow name I would suggest the Lakes families listed are connected in some way to Eliz.
Thomas aged 70 and Bridget aged 70..Seskin Upper.

All the above ares are in the RC Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin.

I had considered and checked "B"lakes...but nothing coming up for that surname.

RootsChat.com is amazing i've found some cousins on that site when i was asking if anyone knew anything about my great great uncle hugh and he was born in Carlow. Go for it you never know who you may find
:-) :-D

Erin,I only know Elizabeth(known as Lizzie Lakes)was from Leighlinbridge was because her grandson,Joe Curran(son of her eldest child,Charles)and also her g/daughter,Catherine(Kathleen)daughter of Elizabeths' second child,John(my late father-in-law)told me.

interesting was your reference to Dunlecky....I was looking into grave inscriptions for Curran,in the area.

found the ones below fro Dunlecky Cemetery Inscriptions.,Carlow...don't know if there's a connection to our Currans.

Erected by Michael Curren of Knocklonagad in memory of his father,Michael Curren, who departed this life the 14th Oct.1829.aged 69 yrs.

In loving memory of my mother d.Dec.16th 1903(66) also father, brothers and sisters.Erected by daughter & sister,Kate Curran.

Elaine ... I posted all that information showing that the LEIX family was very obviously the LAKES family ... and that was all you had to say ?

Eringobragh1916 ... I really did research and explain the connection of the Leix and Lakes families ... two Leix couples who became Lakes ... in the censuses and bmd records ... and the marriage has been found ... did you not read page 2 at all ? :-)

Oh well, no point in spending all that time researching and preparing messages if that's all they mean .........

just for your info before I go

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/County_Laois

"The county's name was formerly spelt as Laoighis and Leix."

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irllao/

"Welcome to the County Leix/Laois home page of the Ireland Genealogical Projects."

I did all that research before I posted all this information in the thread ......

i apologise re the pronouncing of Leix...I was only explaining what i knew.

chrissiex Report 28 Sep 2011 21:31

I didn't mean 'thanks' Elaine ... I meant that I did a whole lot of research and found all that information about the Leix / Lakes family and you didn't say anything except about the pronunciation .......

I just thought you might say something about the information, the two Leix families who became Lakes, that it is almost certain that your Elizabeth is the daughter of one of the Leix couples probably John and Eliza ...

maybe it's just the Currans you're interested in I don't know

but if you get the Curran Lakes marriage certificate I will be interested to know who Eliza's father is !

Elaine

Elaine Report 28 Sep 2011 22:07

I am predomimantly researching the Currans(that is my married name, after all!)

However it is very interesting finding out about ANY of Leos' family.

Maura said I could get a copy of Michael & Elizabeths' marriage cert from groireland..but when I went on the site,it asked for date of marriage, and parents' names.
As I don't have this info.,how can I get a copy?

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 28 Sep 2011 22:22

I guess I'm just different ...

if my father's name was Black and my mother's name was White ... I am just as interested in the Whites ( and all of the women who married my White male ancestors, and their ancestors ) as I am in the Blacks ... after all I am just as much a White ... and just as much all of the families of the women who married Whites ... as I am a Black :-)

I have never understood being interested in only one's father's direct ( surname ) line

who do we see here doing all the family history research ? women ! imagine if three generations from now one of our descendants doing their family history says they're not interested in us ...

anyway Elaine the questions section at the groireland site says

http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/Find_a_Service/bdm/Certificates_ie/faq/#question3

Date of marriage (there is a checkbox which should be selected if the applicant is not sure of the exact date and has chosen an approximate date)

and if you look at the online application form

http://www.hse.ie/lifeevents/

second page, it says

Date of Marriage (dd/mm/yy):
Please check the box if this is an approximate date

( it does not say that on the paper copy to mail in so if that is how you are doing it you could just write 'appoximate' )

all you know is the quarter so you could just pick a date in that quarter

Elaine

Elaine Report 28 Sep 2011 22:30

thnx again..will try now!

the reason i concentrating more on the Currans is because the name follows through, unlike the wives' sides.

at my age,i try to keep things as straightforward as i can! lol

Elaine

Elaine Report 28 Sep 2011 23:16

clicked on your links, chrissiex, but on second page ,where it says date of marriage-check if approx,it won't let you go any further back than 1920....which is a BIG approx from 1890!

also it asks for marriage place or register office.

going to have another look to see if theres a contact ph.no.and then i can explain what info i have and have not.

I would try that one anyway

also on that page it talks about dates and it does refer to post 1920 ... best to check it seems
