Hi,

I had a Great Uncle who lived in Surrey.
He died in June 1970, Surrey (South Western) death was suicide.
His name was Henry James POWELL, born 17th Dec 1908 Crickhowell.

I have sent off for the death cert, but wonder if there was anything in the Newspaper.

Regards
Sally

The newspaper records on Findmypast only go up to 1953.

Your best bet would be the library nearest to where the death took place as they may hold back copies of local newspapers.

The newspaper for the area may well have an archivist on its strength.

When you get the death cert, you will have a date to enable an easier search

Did he actually die in June, or was that when the death was registered?

There is usually a delay in registering deaths when the coroner is involved

My grandfather committed suicide at home in 1972, I don't think that was in any papers....then I doubt whether my gran would have wanted it advertised.

Had he jumped infront of a train, then perhaps there would be nothing she could of done about it.

Good Morning,

I now have the sad death cert for my Great Uncle.

He died on March 12th 1970 in Ewhurst Surrey (Guildford area)

There was an inquest on May 15th 1970.

I think I will have to get in touch with the library for any info regarding the inquest.

Very sad, his wife went off to Australia with their two sons, he never got over it.

Many thanks to you all for your info.
