If any London childrens homes are on line from around 1913-1916 ?
My MIL´s father in law always said that he was brought up in a childrens home and only ever managed to contact 1 brother in later life.
Confused me because in 1911 he was at home along with 7 siblings..His father didn´t die until 1915 and his mother in 1936 (there was 2 more children 1912 and 1913). His father died of chronic phthisis (TB) at the address of the 1911 (well 2 doors away) The eldest son still lived there in 1918. Henry George Thwaites was born in 2nd Oct 1905 Lambeth. The brother he had contact with was Robert Edward Thwaites born 1899.
I can understand that maybe after the father died Mum couldn´t manage so pack the kids off or even as Dad got so ill with infectious decease pack all the kids off ( I would have packed the old man off but that still could have left her destitute )
I am trying to find where the children were shipped off to see ow they were separated.
Any ideas ??
PS MERRY CHRISTMAS :-D :-D :-D

You could try writing here as a starter:
You do need some information about your relative but try this. Very helpful and if they cannot help I am sure they will direct you to another source. Specifics are all important here:

It is society policy to provide summaries of information from case files for relatives of people once in its care.
Good luck,

Sister Amy appears to have married twice and died in 1986 in Essex.
It looks like the family stayed around the same area so you would have thought that if Henry was in touch with one brother it would have been possible to contact his other siblings if desired.

Sorry for the delay in getting back MIL came down earlier than expected !
Thanks for the info everybody I didn´t have a 2nd marriage for Ellen.
I can´t understand why the family didn´t stay in contact because as far as I can work out it wasn´t bad feeling just that he didn´t know where any of them were.
Thanks for that address Sappho I will get the in laws to check that out from the UK end :-D
