Does anyone have any connections to Lizzie Rawes (Rawes/Coward) who was born in Pontefract in November 1921 but then adopted in early 1922 by William and Lily Linsley and named Rene Linsley? I've just discovered that this was my Mother's birth name and would really like to trace her background. Thanks Peter Claridge

Welcome to the boards Peter
Using the free search site http://www.freebmd.org.uk we all do) here is the birth of Lizzie. Use from September Qtr 1837 when Registration first began up to about 1960 or so at present - it's an ongoing project
Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page Births Dec 1921 (>99%) RAWES Lizzie Coward Pontefract 9c 248
From this you can see he mother's maiden name (Coward) and then use the same site to look for a marriage Rawes to Coward. There is only the one possibility showing
Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page
Marriages Dec 1914 (>99%) COWARD Janet M Rawes Kendal 10b 1477 RAWES John H Coward Kendal 10b 1477
There are then 4 possible births, the family moved around! 6 weeks to register a birth makes the 2 1921 birth registrations possible if the Mar. Qtr one was born late 1920

No death for him on freebmd, but there is this....................on FMP. although I can't match it on CWGC site
First name(s) JOHN HENRY Last name RAWES Service number 22059 Rank L/CPL Regiment King's Own (Yorkshire Light Infantry) Battalion 10th Battalion. Birth place ENDMOOR, WESTMORELAND Residence - Enlistment place KENDAL Death year 1916 Death day 30 Death month 9 Cause of death Died of wounds Death place France & Flanders
If the man who died in 1916 was Janet's husband, questions are raised about the father(s) of the three children registered as Rawes with MMN Coward born after that year

Jacqueline's find (John Henry) looks a good possibility as Endmoor given as the place of birth on the service record is only 3 miles from Milnthorpe given on the census as his pob
END-MOOR, a hamlet in Preston-Richard township, Heversham parish, Westmoreland; on the river Beetha, 3¼ miles NE of Milnthorpe.

As you are looking for connections to Lizzie Rawes, have you put her in your tree on here, and looked to see if she or her birth parents are in anyone's tree, and then tried to make contact?
