There seems to be a Finsbury St. Luke and a Chelsea St. Luke.

Presumably you got his father's name from his marriage certificate. did it give an occupation please?

I found fathers name William (from marriage cert. to Maria Castleman 19/9/1859.
Advised by member from "Marriages 1538-1940". Sorry no occupation for father,
but William 1837/8 shown as newsagent 1881, but became plumber ( marriages of
sons Arthur 1884 and Walter 1893 show he was a plumber). Many in family.

1871 St Lukes -probably Finsbury. Family advised by Yvonne is correct.

If it is William Francis b.Dec.1838 he would not be 33 until Dec. 1871. but 1881 shows birth year 1838 age 43. Presumably census dates 1871/1881 were prior to
December.

Don't suppose he could be this one? Father is Thomas a solicitor. And of course birth date is 9 Dec. 1838. (He couldn't be baptised before he was born!) Abode says St. Luke's.

Never been a Francis in family.
His son William 1837/8 (born before April 1838?) had middle name H and first
grandsons William, Arthur and Walter.

I have now found a note that William's (1837/8) father was a carpenter but can't
trace where I got it from.

From Seax for the 1859 marriage.

William's father was a Carpenter and Maria's father was a Church Clerk.

Given the marriage place (Epping, Essex), I wonder about this one in 1851:

1861 correct except Annie Pearson was 8 months. The Jones are nieces.
1851 interesting but all other censuses show born St Lukes ( 1861 Smithfield
which assume part of St Lukes ). The Chingford connection seems to be via
the Castlemans.

Only have William 1837 father was William and was a carpenter.
