I am trying to research my family in the area of wigan lancashire. My great great grandfather John Sharkey born 1853 in ireland and lived in wigan lancashire. possibly died in 1919 in carrickmacross as this is the only record i have been given. He married Ann Lynch December 1892, Wigan lancs. I have found the

1901 census; 6-7 Boyswell lane, wigan
Thomas Sharkey 1894
William Lynch 1888
Kate Sharkey 1896
Rose 1898 (My great grand mother)

Mary Ellen 1900 By 1911 Rose and her sisters are living with relatives Kate and Mary Ellen with their aunt Bridget Duffy) (Thomas' wife) And Rose Sharkey with Mary Mcmackon (Roses' Cosuin) (Bridget's daughter) 19 Clayton Street as after Ann Sharkey (Lynch) death in 1906.

In the family I have been told that he and his borther Thomas Sharkey born 1849 ireland (married to Bridget Duffy) and lived in wigan, went to carrickmacross after I have no parents William or Thomas and have found it very difficult. I am sceptical about a record listing Rose (William) Sharkey in 1881 in wigan, listing a john sharkey as 25.

Other then the fact the name and area are the same there is not much else proof Any help would be greatly appreciated

Ben had two threads earlier today -which he has deleted, having got in a bit of a muddle (as per his PM)

I posted census info for both brothers and their families, and advised Ben to buy the 1892 marriage cert to find out the name of their father - and, of course, Ann's

I advised looking at familysearch for baptisms

BUT...the best option is the marriage cert
