Nicola'S Report 9 Oct 2015 18:02

Among the mountain (!) of family memorabilia which we are lucky enough to have, there is a handwritten account by the husband of my Great Great Aunt where he describes life in Jamaica as experienced by his "eldest sister, Mrs. Morris".

I have purposely not published either the GG Aunt's name nor her husband, so as not to lead any of you down the wrong path so to speak!! We know everything about both of them - they led fascinating lives.

However, said husband of my GGA writes that his sister Mrs. Morris was the wife of the Reverend David Rutton Morris and that he held this post in Montego Bay, Jamaica for many years.

Please can you help with perhaps:
The full maiden name of "Mrs. Morris" - her maiden surname would have been HANNA.
Details of their marriage.
How long he held this post in Montego Bay? It would have spanned the 1800's'ish.
Is there any record of children of the marriage.
Can you see evidence of their return to England.
And all the other things I have left out!!

I will hand this over to all you clever helpful folk out there and pop back to this during the evening and weekend.

Thank you in advance.
:-D

I've had a look at that census entry Gins and the first name that is all squiggly is 'David' which fits in with our chap!

Can anyone see a record of his length of service in Montego Bay, please? And is there any detail of their sailing 'home' to England??

:-)

Nicola - see above!

Can't find an incoming passenger list. Perhaps the clergy had special arrangements?
