Yvonne Report 6 Feb 2016 18:34

Hi, I'm looking for any reference to my grandmother Florence Hetti Snell born 9th December ?1886 in Poplar (London).

The family were Watermen I think and I found her in the 1901 census living with her aunt (Mary Snell) and uncle (George Baker) in Hampton Middx. RG13/671

I'd like to find her in the 1891 census - but I don't know her parents' names !
And if possible - her birth registration,
Thanks,
Yvonne

Can you post the actual census details please Yvonne, if Mary Snell is Florence's aunt it would help to know her age so we can work back to find her siblings.

I'd be inclined to think that Florence Baker is just that, a Baker rather than Snell?

There is a Florence Harriet ( Hetti?) Snell born 1883 which seems more likely?

Births Dec 1883 (>99%)

SNELL Florence Harriet Faringdon 2c 268

EDIT cross posted, so maybe not...but I can't see an obvious birth in Poplar?

(not sure if below from google relates to family)

Mrs. Snell, and her sons John and Harry, were the first regular river-side boat proprietors with whom I became acquainted, and were capital specimens of a class for which I have ever had great respect and admiration.

Mrs. Snell?s sons usually distinguished themselves in the Regattas we saw there, and were particularly good at walking the greasy pole, and letting a pig from a basket which hung from the end of the pole;

My father was born 24th Sept 1910 - George Frederick Barclay, and his sister Bertha Winifred was born 22nd April 1909 - I can't find any original birth certificates or a marriage between a John Frederick Barclay and a Florence Hettie Baker.

Thank you for the help - particularly the possible date for Florence birth in Farringdon and the Waterman info.
Mary Snell , the aunt was born 18th Sept 1854 and was married on 12th June 1878 in Hampton - Kingston 2a/432 is correct.
I think I have found 1 sibling -William James Snell 1852 -1933 (Kingston 154/2a) and I have a lot of info about his children - but I can't find any more siblings

Yvonne ...............

I do not think that your question has been fully answered

Am I correct in that assumption???

Unfortunately, you have ticked a post as answered .............. and that shows on the list of threads as that no further help is required, and no-one needs to read it.

Unfortunately, it is also a quirk of GR, that a tick once made cannot be unticked.

All you can do now is to edit the heading to add Help still needed.

Just click edit on your OP and the post with heading will appear in a separate screen.

Just make the correction to the heading, and then click Submit

Thanks. I think these are my relatives and I wonder if my grandmother's family moved down river to Poplar for a short while ? 1891.
I need to find William Snell's sibs - his sister Mary Ann married to George Baker and sh's the aunt my grandmother lived with in 1901.
I know nothing of my gt grandparents but I guess one of them was a Snell
Thanks again

Yvonne Report 28 Oct 2014 22:04

I have the birth certificate for the aunt - Mary Anne Sarah SNELL born 18 Sept 1854 in Hampton - but no father registered. Her mother was Mary Ann SNELL..
The wedding certificate for MAS Snell to George Henry Baker in Hampton on June 11th 1878 names her father as Francis Oburne - deceased.

I can't find any links to Francis Oburne - andI think I need that to get my grandmother's - Florence's mother or father's name I think?
