Nicola'S Report 24 May 2016 17:12

I know that this ancestor had at least one child DAVID VAUGHAN BISHOP, born in 1915, died in 1921.
How can I find if they had any other children? Is there a 'method' to use on e.g., Ancestry?
He was married to MORVYDD nee Johnes. She died in 1937, he died in 1952.
Thanx

Nicola, it doesn't look like they did, using freebmd.org.uk

Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page

BISHOP David V Johnes Croydon 2a 402

That's the only Bishop birth with mmn Johnes

just put Bishop and Johnes into surname search for births, only works after 1911 when mothers maiden name is listed.

Thanks again RR. The death notice rather confirms the lack of living offspring for them :-(
Interesting that Malyon found the 'right' combination but the 'wrong' order. We have to watch out for these signposts that innocently lead us down blind alleys, don't we!!! Thank you Malyon for helping :-)

Thanks again. His ministry as a Congregational Minister took him to Yorkshire, Birmingham, Manchester, Croydon and more.
In the 1901 census, he is a Student at The Independent College in Withington, Lancs. Interesting that there is another Student there [19 in all] with the distinctive name of 'Maldwyn Johnes' who must be a brother of Frederick's future wife Morvydd Johnes; brother and sister both born in same place.
And unbelievably through Ancestry this evening, I am in touch with the descendant of the only Bishop offspring [seven in all] who had surviving children. So she has confirmed that our chap didn't have surviving children. I have more photos of 'her' family than she has and she's over the moon to see them.
All's well that ends well.

I take it that you have her burial details? - They were all 'buried' in the same grave in Yorkshire: Morvydd, her husband, her mother and the son David Vaughan.

Actually her husband is buried at Nether Stowey with the rest of his parental family - seen the grave!

Nicola'S Report 25 May 2016 23:20

Dea, that is absolutely extraordinary about his final resting place! He was cremated in Dorset near to the village where he and the family lived at Nether Stowey. The rumour was that his ashes were interred in the big family grave plot in the cemetery there. Although his name isn't mentioned on the grave kerbs, it was just "assumed". Ha - so much for family rumours!
So his ashes were transported from Dorset to Yorkshire to be interred in the grave with his wife and young son [and her mother].
Thank you so much for that.
And to Kay????, thank you too for that interesting snippet.
