David there are also 4 closed records at the same address.

Curiously, after Louisa's entry in red pen has been added 'see page 20'.

From the information given on the 1939 Register, i now know that this is not the Ernest Alfred Alexander i was searching for.

------------------------------------------------

In 1911 the family were living in Hampshire:

Well I never!

You have figured it out for me AustinQ without me even having to ask.

Yes, that is the family I am researching. I am thrilled to discover they had four children.

Thank you, very much appreciated.

David

David Report 24 Aug 2016 09:12

I can't seem to find a death for Ernest.

I also can't find a birth or death for Caroline.

I have found her on the 1901 census (Parents George and Mary) but not in 1911.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 24 Aug 2016 09:22

Birth day 8
Birth month 8
Birth year 1893
Death quarter 3

Did wonder about this birth, I know wrong surname, but a maybe. (Perhaps born out of wedlock?) Don't have time to follow it up at the moment- will try and look later.

First name(s) CAROLINE MARY G
Last name COUSINS
Birth year 1893
Birth quarter 3
District ALVERSTOKE
County Hampshire
Country England
Volume 2B Page 553

David

David Report 24 Aug 2016 09:42

Thanks AustinQ

On the 1901 census, there is a Joseph G Cousens born Gosport Hampshire, so I think that birth is probably correct.

Births Jun 1886 (>99%)
COUSINS Joseph George Alverstoke 2b 670

Edit: The son John George Garnett's birth was also registered under the surname of Cousins.

Births Mar 1892 (>99%)
Cousins John George G Alverstoke 2b 528

I gather the parents didn't marry. Although they state on the 1911 census they had been married 20 years.

I just have a to pop out but I will get back to you in a short while.

David

David Report 24 Aug 2016 15:33

I have given up on the death of Ernest. Nothing seems to fit.

Thank you again AustinQ, you have been a great help.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 25 Aug 2016 06:26

In case somebody else can spot something, David is looking for he death of:

Youngest daughter married a Matthews and there's a couple of possibles for her on the Hampshire ERs. Might be worth contacting her as she would know when her father died. Be tactful though.

Dea Report 25 Aug 2016 18:55

I am sure that this is totally unconnected but I still keep looking at it so will post just in case:

Name: Ernest Alexander
Gender: Male
Age: 50
Birth Date: abt 1885
Departure Date: 3 Aug 1935
Port of Departure: Southampton, England
Destination Port: Montreal, Canada
Ship Name: Alaunia
Search Ship Database: Search for the Alaunia in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database
Shipping line: Cunard White Star Limited
Master: E J Rodgers
Last address: 34 Lavender Gardens, Dalston E8............ Fireman.

I know he was on the 1939 census but perhaps he came back and then went out again ??

I could put more to try to justify it but I think it would be a waste of time.............

Best of luck with your efforts to find his descendants - I look forward to seeing how you get on.
