PatW Report 9 Dec 2016 19:36

I wonder if anyone out there can help with the birth year and death year of the above.
I'm told that Margaret was born in Preston Lancashire about 1850 and married Norman Woan at St Johns church Preston in 1871. Norman was born 1851 and died in 1933 in Preston. I don't know who Margaret's parents were.
I have found several ways of spelling the surname Woan. Wone, whone, etc. But Woan is the correct one.

Many thank for all your replies. Very helpful. It will take a while for me to digest it all.
I wondered why I couldn't find her father. Now I know.

I've looked at the 1841 and the 1851 but noticed that there is a considerable difference in the ages of all concerned. Will take some sorting.

Apart from William (who only appears to have gained a year) and the obvious 10 year age gap, there is only 1 years difference in the age between the people on the 1841 to 1851 census which is pretty good going. Especially considering that anyone over the age of 15 was supposed to have their age rounded down to the nearest 5 in 1841.

The names of the children read correctly in the same order with Mary in 1841 possibly actually reading Marg. and 18 year old Joseph no longer at home in 1851.

Both census on the original are taken in the Township of Quernmore with 1841 reading the place as Patdale where there appear to be only 30 people resident. 1851 reads the place as Patendale House. In 1841 William is a Watchman at a Cotton Works and in 1851 a Watcher at Mill.

Sorry I apologise about the age differences. I didn't have my thinking head on at the time and had forgotten there's 10 years between the censuses.
