Thomas was born on 7th May 1892. He served during the First World War, being awarded the Military medal. I have a photograph of him in uniform. with I believe the medal ribbon on the uniform and would suggest the photograph was taken near the end of the war. On the photograph is a young lady and a child. On the back is written from Tom and Deny (or Dery).
My problem is I cannot find a marriage for him. There is no name for the child which is a young girl, about 12 or 15 months of age.

Can anyone find a marriage which may be in military records as he served in France during the First World War.

His Father was Thomas Leeson Johnson who married Mary Hannah Gardam.
The Thomas Arthur Johnson is not the same person. My Thomas served in the 1st North Midland Brigade of the R F A.

Yes that his birth in 1892. I have the parish records for the birth and baptisms.

Just a thought, as I am not sure when he died can someone do a 1939 check to see if he is shown on that survey. he was born 7.5.1892

He's not showing on the 1939 register as far as I can see. I had a look earlier for him and also tried to look for the lady.

Thanks for the check, it was always a long shot. I am struggling to find a death locally at the moment.

Having a problem with FMP so can't look at the image for this record. Wondered if it could be your man. When I first checked the military records I was looking for Thomas but as your man's birth was registered as Tom, it is likely that would be the name he used when he enlisted.

I do not think it will be the same person. My Thomas was definitely serving in 1916 when he was awarded the Military medal and presented with it in November 1918.

He was baptised as Tom. You refer to him as Thomas but I assume you have searched for a possible marriage and death as Tom as well as Thomas.

In 1891 Thomas and Mary were both living in St James parish - so I wonder why one of the baptisms is in St Paul's?:

Re the 1920 marriage suggested by Dea -

The Deny or Dery on the back of the photo might be Daisy?

Ah, but then you say your Thomas was serving in 1916. . . . . .

Bruce

Bruce Report 16 Mar 2017 22:30

My apologies, having checked my sources, yes I should have been searching for Tom and not Thomas. Having done some checks I have not yet come up with any likely results except the one shown by Dea.

Yes he was baptised twice, not sure why.

Many thanks for everyone who has helped already.

Bruce

Bruce Report 16 Mar 2017 22:34

I have checked the back of the card, and although the writing is poor, yes it could be Daisy. I think is the next step is to buy the marriage certificate to show whther it is the correct marriage, and it would appear to be the nearest match
