My Great Great Grandparents ran this hotel in 1911. John Benjamin Green and Elizabeth Green with their children Verena and Reginald Green. I would love any information on them. I can not find death certificates for John, Elizabeth or Reginald, would love to know what happened to them...

An Ancestry tree has Reginald leaving for Quebec 1924 - I am unable to view record so can't tell you what it says, hopefully someone with higher level membership will check it out.

Thank you, I have this information, although the name Terena is wrong it is actually Verena. I can not find any death certificates for any of them apart from Verena. Thank you again for your help. Very nice of you.

I hadn't seen the tree with Reginald leaving for Quebec... where would I find that?

That's OK. I realise you have the info - it was aimed at other members who might be trying to track them down for you!
What are your thoughts on the possible death above?

Yes I suppose its possible. I still can not find the members tree that has Reginald in it!! From what I have learnt John Benjamin was quite a wealthy man and I am not sure how his daughter ended up in the Workhouse in 1931 having her baby (My Nan)

Thank you all for helping..... I had found out that John Benjamin had a nasty mining accident and was unable to work after so that would fit with what Chris has just told me. I believe when Verena passed away at a young age of 39 at some point her son went to live with her family, maybe Reginald. Its Verena's son I am trying to find. Douglas Walters born 1936. I have been trying for almost 3 years to find out something about him. I have been everywhere, joined various on line groups yet nothing. I have a birth certificate for him and that's it. No marriage certificate or death if he is dead. I can not find Reginalds death certificate either. How can I check for deaths in Canada???

From other thread (no replies, have advised to stick to this one):

'I am trying to find my Nans brother.... My nan was adopted but don't think her brother was... He was born 29th August 1936 in Watford Hertfordshire. I believe he lived in the Godalming area until maybe around the age of 10.
His parents were Douglas and Verena Green. Verena and Douglas married in Eastbourne in 1930. For some reason they came to Watford and my nan was born in Watford Workhouse in 1931 and was adopted in 1935. Her real parents returned to Bournemouth.
However a year later they had another child, Douglas, his birth address is the same address as my Nans adopted family in Watford but the real parents were still listed as living in Bournemouth.'

Re Watford workhouse, from Wikipedia:

"The Local Government Act of 1929 gave local authorities the power to take over workhouse infirmaries as municipal hospitals, although outside London few did so. The workhouse system was abolished in the UK by the same Act on 1 April 1930, but many workhouses, renamed Public Assistance Institutions, continued under the control of local county councils."

Sounds as though it could have become an ordinary hospital, but may still have been referred to locally as "the workhouse".

On my Nans birth certificate place of birth is 60 Vicarage Road which is the address used for those born in the Workhouse...
