Hello, can anyone help please. I am looking for the records of this school. Mr great, grandfather, Samuel Kingston, was on the 1881 Census as an inmate at this school and I am trying to find out why he was in there and what happened to him when he left.

The facts:- I know he was born in 1870 in Marylebone and his father died in 1871. He is at the school in 1881 and then there is no record of him until 1902 where he gets married in Middlesex to Elisabeth Francis Lodge. I am trying to find out why he was not on the 1891 census, was he abroad? I just dont know. If anyone can give me any pointers it would be great. Thanks for your help. Jo :-D

When he married Elizabeth Francis Crimmons (widow, nee Lodge) 2 Dec 1902 he was a labourer of 31a Bridge Street. Deceased father George had been a bricklayer.

Witnesses: William and Hettie Attridge - are they members of either family?

WOW, thank you so much everyone, I am amazed by the information you have gathered. I've already got a lot of the information before and information after his marriage and up till his death but had lost him for an odd 20 years, which is after the 1881 census, when he is in the St Marylebone School in Southall aged 11 and when he gets married at the age of 32. I just wondered if the school records might show anything but I cant seem to locate them at all. Anyone got any ideas. Thanks ever so much your help is really appreciated. Jo :-)

St Marylebone school was described as belonging to the guardians of the poor of the parish of St Marylebone .

So it was a live in school for the poor to get or keep them off the street and to give them some education .
In Samuels case it looks as if he didn't have family to look after him at the time cos his dad had died and then his mum went into hospital

These schools often had a very hard regime
