Hello to everyone,

I have just started to try and research our family tree - along with my 9 year old son who is interested in finding out more about our family. However, I am finding it difficult to go past a certain point with some relatives - there just don't seem to be any records (that are listed on this site anyway). For example, I found my great grandmother, Emma Munding (or Mundin) born in Lincoln 1882, she is recorded on the 1901 and 1910 census and I have found her marriage. But I can't find anymore than that, birth or death or any clue regarding her parents. I have tried searching with a variation on the name and few years either side of the birth date but not come up with anything. Is there any way to go beyond that - I would really like to find her parents if possible.

Apologies if this is a really basic question for those of you more experienced at this

Thanks if anyone can help

Thanks for the reply. I have not seen the marriage certificate, just the listing on here - is there a way I can see the marriage certificate online?

That's great - thanks very much. She was certainly married to George Henry Staniforth (the 1 year old John George is my grandfather, and 7 year old Thomas later lost a fortune gambling on the horses :-D ). Can I ask how you found the birth and death - was it just by a search on here? I see she is listed as Emily for the birth so perhaps I didn't look for that variation in first name. I am not sure about the death - I would have been 5 years old and I can't remember her or anyone talking about her - but not impossible it was her.

Thanks again, I have to go out now but will have a closer look at the new information later - it is really helpful

If you wish to buy certificates, apart from the issuing Register Office, this is the only site you should use - each one will cost £9.25 inc P&P.

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
You'd need the details as given above from the gro index to order the MC or possible BC

Try using freebmds,

If you explore the site you will see that is great for research

To see who married who before 1911 click on the page number of the returned results for possible spouses, usefull when you have a couple on the census and only have the females forename to go on as it gives you possibles to follow up on

as the name says, It's FREE

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

explore the site and you will find it does lots of things that no other site can, the list is far to long to post

If you have paid to use Genes records you will find the marriage records do not work before 1912

Hi again, I just wanted to say thanks again for the help - it is all very useful. I have taken out a subscription to Ancestry which has been very useful so far - although often throwing up more questions than answers! Thanks again
