I am trying to find details about my great grandfather Charles Steel. He was born c1882.

In 1903 he married a Rose Linda Simmons in Birmingham, Aston. On the marriage census his fathers name is also Charles Steel (deceased) - profession Carter. My family were known for working down Birmingham market. The address at the time of marriage was 11 back of 11 Bolton Rd.

The first child of theirs we are aware of is Charles David Steel b 2nd April 1911 at 30 Court 4 Barford Street, who stayed in Birmingham. I have been in contact with Charles David's son who has shown me photographs of Charles Steel b c1882 with the name of Charles H Steel transcribed on the back. However, when I have looked on ancestry etc the names of his father don't match.

Can anyone point me in the right direction so I can find out any information about my great grandfather Charles Steel and his family?

Can you clarify which record you refere to that don't match and what is the difference between what you have and what the record says? plus are you checking the original image of the record or just the transcription

Maddie - Yes, the 1911 census you have found does relate to the Steel's in the family.
Porkiepie - I have been viewing both the transcript and original images. But not of the earlier census's of 1911 have got a fathers name which matches that on the marriage certificate.

What would you all do in this situation? How can you confirm things like this?

his birth certificate will name the fathers name, you could buy the 1883 birth maybe
