Researching:
Matthew and Jane Elwood who had my great great grandfather Francis Edward Elwood baptised in 1807 at Horsham Sussex. There is no sign of Matthew or Jane from this date and my great great grandfather was brought up as Francis Edward Elwood MITCHELL

Interesting! A family friend believes they were originally Huguenots. Although rather early to be escaping the French Revolution, there is one mention

Origin: Ghent, Flanders

Unfortunately, my immigrants are to 'recent'.

The persecution of Hugenots was not the result of the French Revolution. It started around the 1680s.
