Have you sent off for his birth certificate to see if his parents are both named ?

On the face of it Florence was married but if you think Terence was illiitimate then her husband won't be reg as the father on his birth cert

You need to get the birth cert for its info

Not seeing a possible marriage for her in the same area of his birth ,but it was wartime and folks moved around because of the bombing . Several of my family ,including me !!! , were Londoners but were evacuated to the midlands in the 1940's

Did your grandfather know his grandparents . What about aunts and uncles ?

Any further info you can get may help

You may not find who his dad was though unless his mum divulged that info to another family member

Anthony .............

If a married woman has a baby, that child is automatically registered in her married name, and that applies even if her husband has been dead for a number of years. The longest time between death and registration of a baby in the father's name was 10 years!

The only time a different name will be registered as the father is if the mother states at the time of registration that the name is xxxxxxx

The only thing that you might be able to find out is to find out who the mother was married to, and then see if he was out of the country, as it was during WW2.

The site that most of us to find out registrations of births marriages and deaths is Freebmd ............... as the name implies, it is free :-)

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

There are 4 marriages showing on there for a Florence Johnson to a Mr Brown between 1930 and 1944 .................... 2 took place in Yorkshire, 1 in Darlington (County Durham) and 1 in London

None are showing in the Holywell area
