1950 Electoral register: (And still listed at this address in 1957)

33 Anglesey Street

Joseph D Harris
Ethel Harris
------------------------------

Still looking- but there's this possible:

Name: MS Ethel Harris
Gender: Female
Age: 101
Birth Date: 1906
Death Date: 15 Aug 2007
Residence Place at Death: Birmingham, Warwickshire, England
Postal Code District: B31
-----------------------------------------

HARRIS ETHEL
Date of Probate:11 March 2008
Probate Number: 2682772
Date of Death: 15 August 2007
Document Type:Grant and will
Registry: Birmingham

EDIT: Still unsure if this belongs to your Ethel- there is a marriage for an Ethel Andrews to Gordon S Harris- they lived for many years in Bellwood Road, Northfield which comes under B31, so this may not be your Ethel.

Why would a record be closed?

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 15 Mar 2016 10:58

The record is from the 1939 register and indicates that the person listed may still be living. In this case the record is likely to be for Roger's sister. If you know that she died you can submit the death certificate to FMP to have the record opened.

It's basically to protect the details of living people.

I have no idea if Beryl is still living, I have never had contact with the family since I was a little girl, I know nothing about them, my late father malcolm hadland was born to ethel to an unknown father, she was a domestic servant in 1923 & he was born in 1924, he was born in the greenhill hostel inkidderminster

Just for info, your father is listed with Ethel and Joseph in 1945 at 33 Anglesey Street. He then presumably marries and moves to 43 Wright Street, Small Heath

Angela

Angela Report 15 Mar 2016 11:27

my dad used to live in Small Heath, I wrote to him there many yrs ago after he & my mum split up, & we moved to Hull, this is why I know nothing about my dad's family. Joseph never adopted my dad.& I never saw my dad for 25 yrs, he lived with a woman named Betty Jennings & they had 3 daughters, so you see it is all a bit complicated, & I am not in touch with my 3 half sisters as I don't know where they live.

AustinQ Report 15 Mar 2016 11:28

Malcolm is listed at 43 Wright Street with a Betty W Harris from 1957- 1965. My records stop at 1965.

Buying Ethel's birth certificate and knowing her exact DOB may help in tracing her death.

You could also obtain Joseph's death certificate to see if Ethel registered the death.

Another possibility is to obtain Joseph's Will which might give you further information:

HARRIS JOSEPH DANIEL
Date of Probate: 09 June 1998
Probate Number: 9851212955
Date of Death: 30 March 1998
Document type: Grant and will
Registry: Birmingham

Angela, are you wanting to make contact with your half siblings?

A person on Ancestry has a family tree with a photo of your father.

Angela

Angela Report 15 Mar 2016 11:39

I would love to know where about she was working in 1923, who's house was she in I wonder?

Angela

Angela Report 15 Mar 2016 11:41

I doubt they would want to know me I have only met them once, the older one came to stay with me many yrs ago, & we got on ok together, I do know their names.

Angela

Angela Report 15 Mar 2016 11:45

That could be my cousin Dawn Tudor or me

I think without an exact number in Warwick Road, I think the chances of finding who Ethel was working for are slim.

As for contacting your half siblings, you don't necessarily have to have a full relationship, but perhaps contact by letter, just saying you're interested in doing your family tree and wondered what information they could share.

If you wanted to find them, I know many people on here are fabulous at finding living people and have access to current electoral registers.
