My father, Douglas Pearson, was born in Leicester in 1928. His mother Gladys Gertrude Pearson, was born in 1900 and died i think in 1947.
My father came to Australia in 1947 or 1946. He said he was brought up in an orphanage, but we cant find any info regarding that.
His brother came to Australia with him, but they never saw their sister again.
There is not a father named on my father's birth certificate. I dont think Gladys ever married.
I would love some help finding out more about my Grandmother and my Aunt, who i think had 2 children.

As Gladys was in an institute in 1939 then it's highly likely that the children were put in a children's home

You could enquire of Barnardos to see if they have any records of him and his siblings

What is/was your father's sister's name, Neil?

Between 1920 and 1943 (I searched 1911-47) there were 6 Pearson children born in Leicester, with mother's surname Pearson. Four of these were girls.

There are three other possibilities as well, Malyon - unless you have some reason for picking Dorothy in particular?

We need Neil to come back to us.

Well, that cuts the choice down to Dorothy and Glenice.

Don't see marriages conclusively for either of them, at least not in Leicestershire.

Do you know where the orphanage was, where your father was brought up, Neil? Was it in Leicestershire?

Hi, thank you all for your help. Sorry i havn't replied earlier, but i sent that message before i left work. I am in Sydney Australia. I have just read all your replies now.
I think her name was Dorothy, and possibly born in 1921. She did stay in the UK. My Dad got a letter from her not long after he came to Australia, but they had no more communication.
Unfortunately we dont have that letter.
My fathers brother was Raymond. My father died 18 years ago, and it was never really talked about, his childhood.
All i and my 2 brothers know is what we were told when we were young, is that they were brought up in an orphanage in Leicester.
