Do you mean something like images of parish record marriages?

Check to see if Marriage Locator has identified where the marriage took place
http://www.marriage-locator.co.uk/
If it says its a church, you could then see if the parish has records on-line

Try http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/online_parish_clerk & https://familysearch.org/ or google the name of the most likely parish

http://www.freereg.org.uk/ has some 1899 marrs for Leics -I don't know how widespread the indexes are, but it's worth a try.

Incidentally, if you've got a hit on FreeBMD for the marr, and it's in the latter pages of the GRO page range for the district, it's probably taken from the registrar's registers, rather than a church rego. Although in 1899, non-conformist churches had recently been allowed to apply to be authorized to keep their own official marr rego's, not many had been approved, so their non-conformist marrs would still require a registrar to attend with his official marr rego for the couple to sign, so these marrs will be lumped together in the GRO pages with the registrar's rego office marrs. (There is no reason why these non-conformist churches shouldn't keep their own private marr rego's, but most of the ones I've found were RC marrs.)

James's birth registered in 1877, Nottingham (agrees to 1901 census transcribed as Litherland) gives mmn of Lineker - this is the only Leatherland/Lineker marriage I can see:

Marriages Jun 1863 (>99%)

Cordon Walter Nottingham 7b 247 Scan available - click to view
Cordow Walter Nottingham 7b 247 Scan available - click to view
>>LEATHERLAND Thomas Nottingham 7b 247 Scan available - click to view
>>Lineker Sarah Ann Nottingham 7B 247 Scan available - click to view
RICHARDS Sarah Ann Nottingham 7b 247 Scan available - click to view

Maybe worth trying to find the family on the earlier census.

Hi flip

I have the marriage cert for Thomas leatherland and Sarah a linker and I have found them both in the census before they got married

In 1881 Thomas leatherland was living with his son Thomas linker and his wife
And it looks like Sarah a was in the workhouse with James

But I don't know why or even if James is Thomas's child I know Sarah put him down as being a leatherland but he still might not be

So I think a birth cert I will have to buy after Christmas and I think James's marriage cert

Thank you to all who have helped

If James's birth was registered, have you looked on the new style GRO? That normally tells you the mmn.

littlelegs Report 19 Dec 2016 20:35

I have and that's how I found James has leatherland mother's mm as linker

But I still have to confirm it by buying the birth cert for James

Don't think I can do anymore without it

Thanks for the info
