Hello, I am hoping someone local to the area may be able to help me. I am trying to find out if there are any Crematoriums in the location of Limerick. Any pointers in the right direction would be very much appreciated. TIA.

No local knowledge, but found mention of a proposed crematorium to serve the area and listing of others in Ireland ....by Google search

Thank you Gwyn, I am having great difficulty in finding any information about existing crematoriums, which makes me wonder if they are not so common in Ireland as in England. I need to find a death in 1985, and don't have a clue where to start. I thought if I could contact all crematoriums I may find the missing relative or rule them out. Thanks again for your input :-D :-D

Lainey...Funerals tend to be the norm.
What leads you to believe the person may have been cremated..?
Do you have a name/area/religion....? The vast majority still go through the Church Funeral Service and Burial in either a RC Cemetery or if its a newer Cem.in the part designated for their particular Rel.

Hello Eringobragh1916, I am trying to find a relative who died in Limerick in 1985. I don't know where to start. So I thought I would contact all crematoriums in the area first to see if they have any records. It has often worked for me here in England. I now think it may be less common in Ireland. My cousin has asked me to try and find out where his Mum is buried. Thank you for the help.

Does that refer to Limerick city or County Limerick do you know?

Do you have a home address for the lady?

Would appear to be the main cemetery in Limerick -

Online searchable database of 70,000 people buried at Mount St Lawrence Cemetery
up to 2008. Includes name, age, address and grave location

https://www.limerick.ie/historicalresources/limerickarchives/cemeteryrecords

This cemetery also in Limerick. Pictures of graves with names. Probably not all with headstones so won't all be there
http://historicgraves.com/graveyard/kilmurry/li-cekm

These sites also appear to have some records -

and

Try googling - a list of cemeteries in Limerick and County Limerick

Gwyn in Kent. All he knows is that his Mother died in Limerick Ireland in 1985. Her name was Shirley Lydia Day and she was born in Kings Somborne, Hampshire, England in 1936. She then married his father and became Shirley Lydia Nicholls. She left the family and went to live in Ireland with a man called Jack. The family tale was that he was some sort of Lord? We do not think she married this man, but are not entirely sure.. We know she was involved in some sort of Bus bombing a few years before she died, but she actually died in 1985. Her siblings are all now deceased so we cannot ask them. My cousin just wants to find his Mum, but I don't know where to start looking. Thank you for taking the time to reply and ask the questions.

Is your cousin in touch with his sister (child from Shirley's first marriage) who may/may not know anything more

Will send a PM - there is a website whose owner has this child named - has not been active for some time but may be contactable.

His sister has no more information than he has sadly. They were all left with her 2nd husband when she went to Ireland.

Does anyone know if Southern Ireland has a GRO like England? I am thinking if I could find a remarriage or her death then it is somewhere to start. TIA

Luckylainey Report 7 Mar 2017 09:48

Update- I now know she divorced her 2nd husband in 1982. The name of the man she was with in Limerick was Jack Flemming originally from Abbots Ann, Hampshire, England.

Most Crematoriums are attached to regular cemeteries.
I can call into the GRO in Dublin and try and get a copy of the Death Cert, if you like..

GinaS, Thank you for your offer. I have sent you a pm. If you do get to the GRO please send me details of how I may reimburse you for your kind offer. It would be so wonderful to be able to tell her son where she might be resting. With best regards and gratitude, Lainey.
