Hi all, its been a long time....
I have a normal Ancestry sub but not worldwide anymore. I'm looking at the marriage of Barbara Roberts and Robert Edward Holmes (he may just have used Robert Holmes).
Barbara was born 1848 in Kent, they emigrated from England to America before 1874. I'm interested because she is my direct ancestors sister, her father died before she was born and her mother died just after childbirth. I cant see Barbara on any British census until she appears in USA with her husband, they also had children. I know I'm on the right tack as have made contact with a descendant of theirs but she doesn't know anything.

Malyon - yes thats her birth and 1880 census report; and I have her birth cert but she married in USA thanks

I cant access USA census except 1880 as I dont have worldwide sorry but Im in touch with her descendant who doesnt know much. Her children were George, Edna and Edward. She died in Wisconsin.

Patchem, yes that's the baptism. I have an extensive tree covering her parents and her fathers side. Just trying to get marriage details and work out if she ran away with her husband; I cant see her before marriage in the UK.

She had 10 children, 6 still living for 1900 census in Spink South Dakota.

1930 census gives immigration year as 1871 - but these dates are usually regarded as unreliable.

Added:
1900 census says immigration 1870.

She also claims to be Welsh in some censuses, whilst in others a parent is Welsh and she is English.

has there is only one Barbara jane Roberts born in uk in 1848 the one I posted and her marriage in 1869 she may have not married Robert Edward holmes

If she did marry in America (looking less likely), and that they were living in Wisconsin, have you tried looking for records here:

Has anyone found James Cloke after that marriage, with or without a Barbara, but probably need that marriage certificate to ensure correct people?

There is this James that would fit. Maybe his wife preferred her middle name? It is just speculation though.
