Would I be able to have my eyes tested and glasses made and ready for me to pick up within 20 days in USA.
Thinking it may be cheaper and quicker over there than here (UK) ;-)

No idea, but one thing to consider from a family members experience.

He has 'beer bottle' lenses. In the UK he could get thin special glass. When he tried to get replacements in the USA, he was told he couldn't have the lighter weight option as it wasn't licensed over there. This is about 4 years ago.

When they came back on holiday, they spent one morning visiting Specsavers!

Thanks DET, I need variafocals (spelling) that are also reactalight (spelling again) they are about £200 here and I really do begrudge paying that much if I can get them cheaper somewhere else.

As no one living in the US has picked up this thread, I'll ask the family member if they can remember costs.

Have you thought of buying the frames on line, then the lenses seperately?

A quick response :-D
..............
Although we didnt end up buying new glasses while in the states ( xx switched to contact lenses), we did look into it.

xx has a v high prescription, and it worked out cheaper (by about 25% for his need) in the uk where you could also get thinner (higher index) glass.

i broke my glasses when in america, and went ot see about them getting fixed, but they said i would have to have an eye test and the glases would take 4 days t come back,

but the price was going to be, i think approx $90, as i was coming home in 2 days the time wasnt good for me, so it can be done in your time limit,

Is it worth ZZzzz seeing if there are local Opticians where she is going, and emailing them? Ask them if you take your presciption, would they accept it or insist on repeating the eye exam?

You'd have to make sure to tell them that it wouldn't be covered by Health Insurance (unless you have a private UK one) and ask if the State/City tax was included. Unlike retail VAT, it is added on at the till.
