and again I'll say, it was my absolute pleasure to represent all of GR - it was an honour even and I'm the one who should be thankful

last night I was at a local hospital wth my dear friend - her husband has been poorly for a few weeks and her father rang me to say she hd been called to the hospital yesterday afternoon, so I dashed over there to be with her - he was in a bad way, but fairly stable - eventually I came home and she stayed a while and then she too went home

She rang me around 9:00 pm to say she was home and I told her "if they call you out in the night, ring me and I'll be there" and sure enough, midnight she rang me - I was still up and about, so I rushed over there and met her - we got up to the ward and it was obvious he was at the end - surrounded by medics - we went over to sit by him and she held his hand and five minutes later he died - it was absolutely ghastly - I've known him for abour forty years

He was an entertainer on the cruise liners - Kenny Smiles - comedian/singer, and did all the big liners, very popular, used to be on "The Comedians" on ITV years back

Still can't believe it and wouldn't be around this early but I have to take my car in - Micra's have been recalled and I have to be at the garage for 11:00

Sad story I realise, but puts things in perspective <3

thank you Ann - it was truly heartbreaking and he was far too young to die - about 66 I think

to me friends at the moment surpass relatives by a long mile - with the exception of my lovely son and daughter in law

friends on here are fantastic - those I've had te pleasure of meeting and those I haven't - just the odd one who has taken against me for some reason, but I can live with that :-D

FROM Malcolm, Carys & Jonathan

It has been a tough time since Sandra's death and still feels very unreal. Looking at the tributes posted has been very emotional and tearful. We felt that GR needed to be mentioned at the funeral and also to read the message that Shaun sent as it was a favourite of Sandra's.
We would like to thank everyone for their very kind and gracious tributes. Sandra was obviously very popular with the GR community and I know that she enjoyed the banter and conversations posted. She also thoroughly enjoyed meeting all in Abergavenny and getting to know everyone.
Special thanks to Ann for representing the GR community at the funeral, it was very much appreciated.
Also special thanks to Jude for posting the funeral details etc. at one of the most difficult times of my life.
Extra special thanks to Shaun for producing the booklet of tributes, again something special for us to treasure.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the tributes and would like to wish everyone long and entertaining posts.

To Malcolm, Cary's and Jonathan....

Thank you all for your message it means alot.
l just want to say...

It was a pleasure knowing Sandie and to speak to you Malcolm. No one could be as shocked, saddened, numbed as you, Sandies family, at her untimely passing, but so many of us did feel some of that shock and sadness with you, and still do.
She was such a caring, funny lady. Did you know she set up a thread in aid of the Hunger site....she gave us this link and some of us click it each day. You will need to go to the site to understand how it works. l will add the name of the thread here when l find it.

Malcolm, Carys and Jonathon - thank you very much - I was privileged to attend Sandie's funeral - I'm sorry I could not attend the reception afterwards but I had enough trouble finding the chapel!! think I would have got totally lost if I'd ventured further

I met Sandie for the first time some years back in the Auberge in Abergavenny - she was first there and I walked in, looked around - saw Sandie but we had no idea who each other was - we quickly found out and hit it off immediately <3

To Malcolm , Carys and Jonathon,
Thank you all for your message, cannot really add to what Jude and Ann as already stated , they speak for all of us on GR who new and found Sandie to be such a loving funny and caring person. The tribute booklet I thought would be an everlasting memory of the many friends she had on GR, I'm glad you found some comfort in reading the tributes. I have also changed the name of the Welsh thread in memory of Sandy.
You all take care.
