Does anybody recoginze the drawing or the signature? Actually it might be a Canadian artist as it was found in a thrift shop in Ottawa.
Thanks

Hi

I googled lew, which is what the signature seems to be to be, and there are several that came up.

It does have a Canadian look to it!

Stella ...........

van der Leur was active in Belgium, and the piece does seem to have more of a Canadian look to it

check the back and see if the pins and backing board/paper are the same age as the frame, or whether they have been removed to put in a more recent drawing. Might give you an idea of when it was drawn if it seems to be original to the frame?

i think taking it out of the frame is not a good idea, best leave it intact until an art expert sees it, unless as Rose says it has been tampered with already

I have googled several possibilities and looked at their pictures. Not one has a signature like the one on your painting.

Then I found this site with LOTS of signatures.

Good luck if you study it in detail!!

it's a very amateur drawing the perspective between the people and the fence is all wrong they are in the foreground and should look bigger, also the detail on the trees is not good especially the trunks, and the chalk clouds if you look at one the chalk has been applied across the top of the tree actually making the charcoal look a misty grey

Hi.
Nothing there at all. Terry found it under a bed in the spare room when she was moving, and gave it to me. She has no idea where it came from. LOL

Hmmmm maybe it is 'nobody' :-(

I quite often buy old frames at car boot sales to put my own drawing and paintings in, has she said if the original backing is still on?

"Hi, it looks like it has ancient tape sticking it to the matt.

It's done on a fairly thick vellum??"

Stella, I used to do that. Bought a picture for £2.50, purely for the frame, in a local jumble sale. Didn't use it, stored the pic under my bed.
A few years later, I cleared the junk, found the picture, and a signature.
I now had the internet.
Looked up the signature - it is by Rene Le Forestiere, and worth at least £250 now.
Not a bad interest on my outgoings :-D

Wow Maggie, well done!.

I still don't think it is a very good drawing but that is just my humble opinion.. :-)
