Hello


Chinese New Year began this year on 27 January when homes were cleaned and preparations were made for the main festival day on 28 January.

Windows and doors are decorated with red lanterns and red envelopes containing money are given to family as presents.

The New Year festival is centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Traditionally, the festival was a time to honor deities as well as ancestors.

Chinese New Year is celebrated in many countries with significant Chinese populations, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia,
Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mauritius and Australia.


Today, in many cities of the United Kingdom there have been parades and activities to welcome the new year, the year of the Rooster.
