Hi, I'm looking for my wife's cousin, Hazel Martin nee Card or Laurie-Lean. I have an address near Horsham , Sussex in 1972. They have the same g'mother - Minnie Rose Peacock nee Card. We think Hazel returned to the Uk from Oz about 1960. Does anyone know Hazel or have any pointers please.
Regards
Terry :-)

In which year was she born?

Have you done any research yourself?

Terence Report 12 Apr 2014 10:26

G morning Reggie,
1938. Have done quite a bit of research and now seem to be chasing my own tale!
So far I've got 2 marriages (1 in Oz) and the birth of a son in 1972 which is the last known address I have near Horsham. The electoral rolls I've been able to access aren't very promising.
Regards
Terry

the name of the son is quite unusual ... might he have been named for an uncle?

(Hazel's second husband seems to have the same parents as the elder namesake of her son, although the surnames are common)

there are a lot of references on line to the older person with the same name, the only other birth for the name

it would be fairly easy to make contact and enquire about any connection

would Hazel's first husband have re-emigrated to Canada?

going by his occupation and age on the passenger record I would be quite certain this is him

and so

(since he has a public profile and online presence I think it is fine to put this info here - his present wife also has a very public profile)

are you certain it is the son or the barrister of the same name? :-)

in any case I expect they must be related and I was suggesting to contact that other one anyhow :-)

It's the barrister but the years he went to university fit with the one born in 1972, so the odds are very good.

ah, there was me assuming that the barrister was the older one because of some sort of consistency I thought I'd seen, well done

Terence you must have done everything but google! :-D

often the best approach for unusual names

Hello everyone,

A big thank you to all you helpful people, I didn't expect so many replies quite so quickly. So to try and answer but firstly there's a strong possibility that I've found Hazel in London through another contact but afraid I can't say anymore than that at the moment.

PricklyHolly - Thanks, I found the outgoing passenger list some time ago which is really where all this started. I found the incoming passenger list (with D W Laurie Lean) very recently as a result of receiving a certificate and realising the 1st marriage was in Aus'. I then found that marriage on BMD.NSW.AUS.

Reggie - Thanks, I also found those 2 possibilities on FMP in Lancs', thought a bit vague for the moment but was keeping in mind to try if necessary.

JoonieCloonie - Also thanks, and again I'd also found that Canadian link using google. A strong probability for the 1st marriage but a bit wary of trying an email, however would worth a shot in case they kept in touch if I need to.

Rose - Thanks for the link. I've just tried it. It's a definate maybe and would be easy to try if I need to.

First I need to see if anything comes of my other 'avenue' but it may take a little while. I'll let you know in the fullness of time.
Again, a bit thank you to everybody.
Happy researching.
Regards
Terry
