Looking for my cousin Gordon. He is a GR member but not responding to requests to view his tree. May be un-financial and not receiving messages.

If someone just sends me a message to view my tree. My first reaction is not on your Nellie. .i don't know you or how we may be connected .

Have had the experience of my tree being copied before so I won't open my tree till a def connection has been established,

Would suggest you try again but give details of who you are and how you might have a family connection .

Has he actually opened your message ?

There is a Gordon Eric Meekings listed up till 2010 on 192.com. If he doesn't reply on here, his would give you a fairly recent address. If it's him, his wife is listed also.

When I tried to contact Gordon I provided more info than I was prepared to put on an open board. I said was looking for my first cousin Gordon Meekings. Our mothers were sisters, maiden name Partridge. Now I thought Partridge would be an easy name to research, it is not, it is as popular as Smith. I also opened my tree to him so he would have no trouble seeing where I fit in.
My great grandmother is Ellen (known as Nellie) Dunn ne Death. Unlikely to be the same Nellie. She was hard to track down. The only thing I had was the story of a hand-me-down mug (or may be an Urn - I never saw it) with her name on it. I also have a great-great grandmother Harriet who married into the Dunn family, Her pedigree is doubtful, if I ever find a marriage between James Dunn and a Harriet and I can trace her children I will be more comfortable. .

A non-paying member can receive messages.

If yours to him has not been opened, it is probably because he has changed his e-mail, and not told GR

If you want help with your research.........ask on the Find Ancestors board, giving location ,and dates

From your last post......

"Unlikely to be the same Nellie"

The same as.......................which Nellie???.

I see you have included Gordon in your tree............as you are not in touch with him, how did you manage to obtain his permission?

Perhaps the two other members with him in their trees are in contact with him..............

Reggie,

Fred has his research interests including 'Davies' so has probably just mentioned the wrong surname(Partridge) when he should have said Davies.

Perhaps that's why he said that Partridge is a common as Smith..................he meant Davies!

Frederick

Frederick Report 22 Apr 2014 05:09

Shirley @ 6:28 - How can I tell if Gordon has actually opened my message? I have been a member for some years and still learning my way around. It would help if GR didn't keep "upgrading".

brummiejan @ 6: 7:41 - Thanks for that. I now have his Business contact through a Haulage Company Index, would you believe I got it with a goggle search on Gordon Eric Meekings? I feel like I was cheating. Also have information from the Electoral Role, when you see what is available from the Electoral Role you have to wonder why the Census results have a 100 year embargo. Must be sealed because of more sensitive information.

Reggie - Various postings. Wish I could get round the system at half the speed that you seem to be able to. You are not in my contacts list or my "other Tree" list so how come you can see my tree? May be you are Gordon and using the handle "Reggie" to acknowledge an ancestor..

Ricochet - Wow. That is a lot of information. Thank you. I think Eric Reginald will turn out to be Gordon's father. I will do some back checking and see how I go.

patchem - Sorry, you are correct, Partridge is back another generation. I am surprised at how prolific the names Davies and Partridge are when trying to do family research, more prolific than the 'phone book suggests

Thank you all

If the message still has a green envelope against it then it hasn't been opened

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 22 Apr 2014 09:17

I can see that you have this man in your tree by the simple expedient of looking for his name in 'search all member trees'

And, as you cannot have obtained his permission, you are actually contravening site guidelines by including him.

As I said earlier, perhaps the others with him in their trees do have the necessary permission, and are therefore in contact with him

I can assure you that I am NOT Gordon..................

As the marriage of Gordon's parents shows his father's name to be Eric R..................................
