Sandra has Edith Drapper, 1915, Peckham, in her tree.

There are others with Edith Drapper born Lambeth or St Olave in their trees on here.

There are only 2 births on free bmd for Edith Drapper between 1910 and 1920, both being Edith M.

There is no DOB on the death record ( info above), so the YOB would be taken from the age at death.

The death was registered in JFM 1971 - well before the lady's birthday for that year

Thanks for your replies. It is beginning to look to me that I may be looking at the wrong Edith M Drapper. There is an Edythe M Drapper born the same year and I have found a marriage for her to a Grant, christian name unknown, but could be John. This was in Cairo during 1941-1945. I did contact the consulate in Cairo for info, but they did not reply. This lady died in 2002, but I did try checking if there were any children from that marriage. Still ploughing through that as there are many many and I have no way of knowing whether or not any children were born in UK or abroad. It is possible that they are one and the same and she remarried. She left home when she was a teenager, at Cedric Road New Eltham and what happened to her after that is very vague. I do appreciate the info you have taken the trouble to find for me.

It would help us to help you if you told as ALL you know about this woman

You say she 'left home', so who were her parents?

If she married anyone, she should have named her father on the cert.

What are you actually hoping for?

Sadiesofteyes Report 13 Oct 2014 08:42

Hi Jacqueline

The information I have is as follows:
Edith M Drapper born 1915 in Peckham/Camberwell to Ernest Drapper (born 1889 -1947) and Ether - nee Curtis (born 1889-1939). They lived in Cedric Road New Eltham. Edith had two younger brothers, Alan born 1925 and Donald born 1927. They were young when she left home. It was believed that she may have gone to America, although she may have been too young to travel without her parents consent. Her father tried to trace her through the Salvation Army, but they traced her to France and then the trail went cold. It was war time when he did this and the Salvation Army believed she may have been working for the French Resistance.Donald said he couldn't remember much about it, but she came home briefly in 1947 when her father died to collect her inheritance and they belive that her name was then Grant. There was a rumour that she was made to leave home because she was pregnant. We would like to find any relatives of hers, as Donald's wife (he passed on unfortunately) has photographs of Edith as a child and she wants to pass them on to any family she may have. Edith was my husbands aunt. We shall have to get a marriage certificate for her. I was tring to do a bit more detective work as I could be researching the wrong lady.
Thanks so much.
Sandra

Certs are not optional when doing this kind of research........they are essential

First name(s) EDYTHE MAY
Last name GRANT
Gender Female
Birth day 25
Birth month 8
Birth year 1915
Age -
Death quarter 2
Death year 2002
District KENSINGTON & CHELSEA
District number 2391C
Register number C14C
Entry number 028
Date of registration mm/yy 0402

First name(s) EDYTHE M
Last name DRAPPER
Year range 1941-1945
Marriage place CAIRO
Country EGYPT
Record Source GRO Consular Marriages (1849-1965)
Volume 39
Page 108

The spelling of the forename is not as registered when she was born, but that may have been an affectation on her part

The birth cert would tell you her DOB, and second name, which you can cross-reference with the death info

You could also get the death cert, to find out who the informant was.

If she had surviving family, one of them would probably have registered the death

The marriage cert can be ordered from the GRO in exactly the same way as those for England and Wales. Her father's name will be on it

No children registered in England or Wales, and the consular birth index does not include MMN

Thank you. I will look at these certificates and take it from there. I realise I will not get any further without them, without a relative seeing this.
Regards
Sandra
