Caroline,
Its unwise to put your email address and Genes really dont allow it..can you see the facility Edit,,,,,click and just edit it out and hit submit, therest of your post will remain,

Re----- Melford,,has he applied for his file of adoption which will contain information that will be relevant to his search.

If you havn't already add his birth name to your family tree,,,,,

Presumable he has added his name to the Adoption Contact Register?

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

His birth reg is on http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Create a dedicated email address eg @hotmail or @gmail.com (there could be other free providers) and leave a Post'em on the site. If a relative comes looking, they will be able to send you/him a message.
Click on the Glasses icon next to the entry

Does he know the name of his birth mother? Has he looked for subsequent marriages for her, and the births of half-siblings.

His original birth cert would help him- it will name his mother and a chance that it might name his father.

As he seems to know his birth name, send for it and see what it says and take it from there

I have given his half sisters birth details and address ... His mother may still be living but can only see her on the electoral roll up until 2002, after that someone else is living there
