Hi all,
Trying to find my late husband's father's family (parents not married). All that we know is that he was called John (Jake) Allan and that in 1949/50 he lived in Logie Gardens, Aberdeen. Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers,
Lesley

Historical Electoral Rolls might help you find who else lived at the address. With a bit of luck there might be other Allen's listed.
Not sure were they'd be held - you could email Aberdeen Central Library

Did you marry in Scotland? If so, what info is given about him on the MC? England/Welsh MC would at least give his occupation and if deceased.

To try and work out a time-frame, did the Logie Gardens address come from your husband's BC/MC or some other document?

just for a little idea of what you have to overcome ...

http://scotlandspeople.gov.uk shows 25 results for the name John Allan marrying in Aberdeen from 1950 to 1960 :-(

several trees at this site ('search all member trees' under Search at the top of this page) show John Allans born 1921-1930 in Aberdeen, but the odds would seem to be against you

the problem is that even if you contacted someone here, it is unlikely they would know about John/Jake's other child

one thing you could do though is send messages saying you are looking for a family member you lost touch with, and is their John known as Jake?

that info won't help with official records but it could help identify the right John through personal contact
