Hi - with my mum on holiday by the pool. She's trying to find old school friend (see above) - she believes that McIntryre to be married name. Any help appreciated. Dob 1946 ish

Electoral Roll on FMP gives 2 female McIntosh who have lived in Greenock. Neither have a first name of Eleanor.

Do you know the name of her husband? There's a better chance of using his name as a checking point if they've moved elsewhere.

Have you tried on-line phone books such as www.thephonebook.bt.com ?

Was she born as McIntosh who's mother was a Blain?
Or was she born Blain, married a McIntosh then a further partnership to a McIntyre?

TBH - I did get confused and searched under the surname of McIntosh. :-(

There are 17 results for McIntyre in the whole of Scotland. We really do need to know Mr McIntyre/Intryer's first name to have any chance of finding her.

Did she have any children with Mr M that you know names for? Its possible that some might still be living with her in 2002 which is the earliest ER on line.

For instance, just using the free search, there are 7 marriages for an Eleanor Bain between 1964 & 1976 (1 in 1963) Using credits to view the registration details might help you decide if they were in the correct area.

Are there any other details that your mother can remember? The names of Eleanor's parents or those of her siblings if she had any? Brothers would be good!

We do normally advise writing to the address rather than phoning. What with cold calls etc, its all too easy to slam the phone down. The other aspect is that no one knows their state of health, or even if they are about to have a chip-pan fire. (You get the drift)
