The Error Message is back :-P

I got two yesterday, first time for months.

Have they been "tweaking" (note the use of quotes) again?

:-(

I'm still getting them, I haven't got access to my tree for months......

Will they ever sort it! A rhetorical question

Why are we still paying members :-S

nameslessone Report 13 Nov 2013 15:47

Over the last few years I've wondered what all the fuss was about - whilst also sympathising with your anger. Well at last (arrrrrrgh!!!!!) I fully understand.

Am now having real problems getting onto Genes because of Error 503. eventually got on by using OH's laptop, which doesn't use Chrome.

Wonder what will happen if I now go and try the main computer.

(Maybe restoring emoticons has caused this ?????)

IGP

did you repeat the posting as a quote??

ie, put quotations remarks around it, or separate it off form the rest of your message??

Because GR has been asked about adding a "quote function" for use as you did ........... and they seem to be agreement that it would be useful!

Posted yesterday morning!

Suggestions Board Roundup

Community Advisor Report 3 Sep 2013 10:03

"A couple of suggestions have been brought forward on the Suggestions Board, they have been answered in previous round-ups, and the original responses are below. I don’t have any further updates for these two at the moment.

• Can we have the ‘quote’ function activated. This will stop misunderstandings happening when replying to posts not directly before one’s reply. This function is available on other SMF forums and would be a welcomed addiction.
- Thanks for this suggestion; I know that quite a few members have requested this. It may not be a quick change because the way in which our boards have been created but we will look into how we can make this possible. I’ll keep you updated when I know more."

The topic was first answered by Natasha on 19 July ..................

Community Advisor Report 19 Jul 2013 12:31

exactly the same wording was used.

-----------------

.............. so you apparently did nothing wrong in re-posting an earlier post AS LONG AS YOU WERE USING IT AS A QUOTE before adding your own response.

If you just c&p'd the earlier post without any further comment, then that may be a grey area!

So it looks like the title of this thread fits this site down to a tee

I have given up with them now and really wish I hadn't wasted my money renewing for a year instead of the normal 6 months.

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 3 Sep 2013 17:16

Apparently it does not just mean posting new threads on the same or similar topic.

I was told off and had my posting deleted for c & p ing from a members posting made earlier in the same thread, on the basis I had submitted the same material again.

I can only tell it as it happened.

jax

jax Report 3 Sep 2013 15:47

As I said on Joys thread below....GR make it up as they go along

If someone reports a post/thread they will then make up a reason why it broke the T&C's if one is not obvious

I noticed a thread yesterday that was rr'd I believe it was because there was already a thread about the same person/family (I couldn't see any other reason why)

The thread was then removed....only thing was the replies were all on that thread :-S so what a complete waste of time that was

Kense

Kense Report 3 Sep 2013 14:46

If it only meant threads then it would surely say so in the wording of the rule.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 3 Sep 2013 12:34

That means posting new threads on the same or similar topic and this is all on the one

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 3 Sep 2013 11:22

I would add to that, as per my remarks on the "Quoting other persons comments' thread, that very many of the postings on this thread are also likely to be in breach if the guideline I fell foul of, "Please do not submit the same or similar material more than once."

I repeat the error message in case there is any difference in the wording

BUT as I have said previously the Team do not bother to read what you are doing when that message appears anyway so a waste of time reporting it.

Kense

Kense Report 18 Aug 2013 12:07

There is absolutely no point in repeating the text of the standard error message.

There are many things that can cause it. It just means the software has detected a situation where it can't complete the processing of your action. That is why you should state what you did before the error was displayed.

Timeouts are the most frequent and Rollo has explained why not much can be done about it.

If you get an error it is always worth trying F5 or CTRL F5.
