Hello,
Love some help please -
NZ birth 1880 Registration No. 3107 Child - Adeney, Henry Charles Mother – Perry, Emma Augusta Father – Adeney, Charles
NZ birth 1878 Registration No.2263 Child – Adeney, George Arthur Walter Halesgrave Mother – Perry, Emma Augusta Father – Adeney, Charles
These two boys were born in NZ to parents Charles Adeney and Emma Augusta Perry. I later found Emma to have left Charles and with another man by 1881 when she went onto have a large family. (Emma had 4 husbands in total)
It is unknown what ever happened to these two boys as they never remained with their mother Emma.
Charles, the father was later found to have remarried in 1912 to Elizabeth Thompson in NSW Australia where he died. I was unable to find the two boys in Australia or on FreeBDM UK.
I suppose there is always a possibility that they were adopted out in NZ or were sent back to England to extended family where Emma and Charles emigrated from in 1877 on board Wanganui. Emma remained and died in NZ.
Hope I have given enough information. Grateful if anyone can shed some light on these two boys and what may have happened to them.
Thanks Regards Kaye

Hi Lewella,
That certainly is a possibility. I'm hopeful someone might be able to find these two boys, somewhere. Again, its possible if they were adopted out their names would have changed.
Will order dad's death cert if nothing else turns up. I have had a lot of fun researching this family with all its twists and turns.

in case it helps...there's 'Joy Murrin's Transcription Services' -on-line - she will search NSW BMD d cert for abt $15. ... ....... The National Library of NZ (Auckland) has an 'Ask a Librarian' service ..they will check their records inc electoral rolls/ newspaper death notices etc. (NSW State Library and all States offer same service) ....Valerie

Hi Kaye,
do you know the surname of the man that Emma left with? It is very possible they may have changed the boys names particularly if the boys were so young.
Another idea are the other states of Australia as there are a number of Adeney in Victorian Electoral rolls though using the Vic BDM I can't see any connections
Charles' death certificate could also have a witness on it that may provide another clue.
just some thoughts Kim

Hello
I have found one of the boy's I have been looking for only due to his stepfather beating him badly causing court action.
George Adeney aged six in 1885 in Otaki, New Zealand.
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&d=MS18851217.2.14&l=mi&e=-------10--1----0--
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&d=EP18851217.2.29&cl=CL2.1885.12&srpos=0&e=-------10--1----0--
From the articles it appears the mother changed the boy's surname from Adeney to Perry (her maiden name) to avoid being found out for deserting the boy's father her husband (Charles Adeney).
From the articles this is the first only record I have found of George being alive. After this article date I have lost trace of him. Did Constable Carr who took charge of the boy never return him to the family. Might he have gone to a home for boys if so where can find such information. I have searched all the death/marriage records in NZ Aust and UK. The boy/s did not go with their biological father to Australia.
Hope you can help. Many thanks Kaye

Thanks Helen, will look into this, just never know. There were alot of Adeney's in NSW and VIC. Hope to find more info in NZ as it appears George (child) had stayed with the mother in NZ. Havent found any other info on the other boy, Charles. Hope someone might have better searching skills than me and might find something, even small.
Many thanks to you. Kaye

Dee and Batman'sDaughter, what a great find, I never thought this boy would be found in the UK, that the father took the younger of the two boys to the UK. Is it possible to find shipping information when Henry Charles Adeney (boy) left Lyttleton, Christchurch, NZ to the UK, which would have to between 1880 and 1891. His father, Charles Adeney was a sea merchant so he may have been crew.
I'm still looking for what happened to the other boy, George Adeney (or Perry) in NZ after his stepfather caused him injuries resulting in court appearances.
