Trying to find my G Grandparents Andrew Alexander born c1862 in St. Andrews, Scotland who married Mary Ann Jessett born c 1861 in, daughter of John Jessett and Mary Brewer. Andrew and Mary Ann were married 25/9/1884 in Wandsworth, Surrey. In the 1891 census they were living at Romney Marsh, Kent with their 3 sons.. Mary Ann died in 19/10/1920 in Balfour St. Glasgow and Andrew died 24/4/1932 in Balornook Road, Glasgow. I cannot find them in any other census anywhere! Would like to know how many other children they had and where they resided, any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Sandra

Arthur from 1891 census:
Births Sep 1890
Jessett Arthur Jeater Wandsworth 1d 691
(But it is an L on the original, when compared with other names on the page, so he probably just wrote it down 'wrong')

Now this is where it gets a little "iffy"

That tree that I posted above has the following for Mary Ann Jessett, and no further information on her

Mary Ann Jessett

Birth
Jan 1861
Battersea, London, , England

Death
Oct 1912
Wandsworth, London, , England

1881
Age: 20
Residence
Wimbledon, Surrey, England

Source:- 1881 England Census

1901
Age: 40
Residence
Wandsworth, London, England

Source:- 1901 England Census

1912
Oct
Age: 51
Death
Wandsworth, London, , England

That death obviously doesn't match with the information that Sandra has

.... but I wonder if Wendy (the tree owner) has in fact got mother's death mixed up with the daughter?????????

There is something that needs sorting out

There are 89Public Family Trees on ancestry with mary Ann Jessett, parents John Jessett and Mary (Ann) Brewer

7 of them show Mary Ann Jessett not marrying, and dying in October 1912 in Wandsworth

1 has only the basic information on birth year and parents

Only 1 has Mary Ann Brewer marring Andrew Alexander, and dying in Scotland.

It seems to me that there is confusion about this poor woman.

A very BIG thank-you to everyone that replied to my queries, you have been a great help, as I now have all the siblings names. I have my Grandfather's marriage cert. (Harry Alexander who was married in Australia in 1913 and it shows his parents as Andrew Alexander and Mary Jessett, also have Andrew and Mary Ann Jessett's M/C which shows James Alexander (his Father) occupation to be Stone Mason and Mary Ann's father as John Jessett, occupation Coachman. Also have John Thomas Jessett and Mary Ann Brewer's M/C 1858 giving their Father's occupations as Carter and Cooper. Mary Ann Alexander (nee Jessett) Death Cert. states she was married to Andrew Alexander (golf Club Maker) so I am sure I have the right family. Thanks again for all the help received, I am truly grateful as I had "hit a brick wall"
If anyone is looking for this family I have quite a bit more info. I am more than willing to share. Kind Regards, Sandra

What are you actually looking for?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 31 Jul 2019 15:50

Unfortunately, for births after 1854, it's not possible to use the mother's maiden surname as a search term on ScotlandsPeople website.

There are lots of Alexander births in Glasgow 1914-40 (1323 to be exact), and no way to know if any of them are James's children without buying all the certs, which is clearly unfeasibly expensive.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 31 Jul 2019 15:54

I assume you would know if your mother had any siblings, so it must be children from the first marriage you're looking for?

What year was James born (in case the district helps to narrow it down) ?

EDIT: I mean James junior, the son from the first marriage.
