Charles James Banks 1849 Lincoln.I am trying to fill in the missing years,he was last in the 1861 census then turns up in the 1891 census with Mary/Martha Clark with or without an E.His name is then Richard Clark, which he continues to use.He is recorded as alive in 1911 but deceased by 1922 as recorded on a marriage cert.As you can see i have done a lot of research already but am stumped when it comes to the missing years.D

Doreen

Doreen Report 5 Mar 2010 09:54

Gee

Gee Report 5 Mar 2010 10:13

Doreen

There are too many possibles!

I think the only way you are going to be able to solve this is buy marriage certificates in order to establish his first wife

Not cheap I know but I cant see another way around it

Ginny,i have to leave the comp for a while, having my hair done.I will check in regularly to see if you have or need any info.I dont fancy your chances much i must admit. D x

Doreen

Doreen Report 5 Mar 2010 10:20

What do you think the chances are that he would have been married when he met Martha,if so then it would have to be the smallborough one, would'nt it!

Gee

Gee Report 5 Mar 2010 10:24

Ive checked the marriage cert online and it does say he is a 'widower' and Martha is a 'spinster'

So, unless he lied (cant see why he would) he must have been married before

Can you post the details of the 91 census when you say Martha and 'Richard' are together as I cant see it.......they werent married until 97 so not sure why are together?

Doreen

Im not convinced about that 1891 census, it could be anyone.

What makes you thinks its your Charles and why would he have her name, they didnt marry until 6 years later

Also, what makes you think he changed his name to Richard?

Soooo many questions
