I imagine we all know about the castle, which I have visited several times, but do we all know about the coal mine? I believe it had 3 entrances (It closed in 2002 I think), one of which was the 'Castle Drift'. Ironically I am a coal miner and have been underground at Blenkinsopp twice. I was born in Blyth Northumberland but have lived in Warwickshire and Leicestershire since 1961, and currently am UDM Branch Secretary at Daw Mill Mine,Europe's largest, and a member of my Union's National Executive .
