Find Ancestors

I would be very grateful for help with tracing my husbands great grandfather-John Brodie dob 1850. I have already had a lot of help from GR members with other members of the Brodie clan.
I have found James on the 1861 census in Scotland with his parents Elizabeth and James 1823 and siblings Elizabeth,William,Clementine,John A and Hugh R. I would like to know what happened to James (1850) from 1861 onwards. I think that James emigrated to USA at some stage. I know he married and had 5 children, James Lily Emeline William John. William is my husbands Grandfather. He ended up in Liverpool, I think that one of the parents died and the children were farmed out to aunts and uncles etc. This part of the family history is vague, so any help would be appreciated. Has anyone got conections with America? Thanks all

I've turned this one upside down, inside out and I can only See William John Brodie in 1901.

I've looked at the emigrations and immigration records and see nothing. I've looked at the 1900 US census (unfortunately the 1890 doesn't exist now), I've even checked Canada.... still nothing.


I'll keep having a look but anything else you maybe able to add maybe of help. Do you have William J Brodies marriage certificate? If you do does it state his father as deceased? or an occupation for him? and who were the witnesses? If you don't have it I think I would order it and see what it states;

1901 marriage to Maggie Stirling is the correct one?

Although this couple on 1911 say they have been married for 7 years, the only marriage I can find to fit is that one?
