I was hoping that someone can help me trace my father? I have searched the births and deaths but I'm unable to trace him.

My father Joined the army at a young age infact he lied about his age so he could Join the Kings Regt in Liverpool, along with the lie about his age he used his second name Cecil instead of his first name Frederick he became a Sjt and his army number was 14476921
I realy need to trace his date of birth for my passport so any help that anyone can give me, I will be very grateful

Jeff, you need to give his surname and a rough idea of when and where he was born. Although you have searched, sometimes someone else just manages to spot what you might have missed - believe me, I know!!

Thanks Janet I thought I added his name to the title?? anyway his surname is Brown and it is a very rough guess to his birth year is around 1923 and I only got to that date by working out if he Joined the army at 16 (under age) and the second world war started in 1939, so it must be around 1923 but it is Just a guess.

I imagine you have seen this one:

Births Dec 1925 (>99%)
Brown Frederick C Halsall Wigan 8c 69

You must be able to get a passport without his date of birth I would think - there must be lots of people in your position.

did he marry your mother? if so if we can find the marriage it should give his age, father's name and occupation

Jeff1 Report 31 Oct 2009 00:12

Thanks again Jan and no I had not seen that one. I was just talking to my wife about it and she said the same as you that there must be loads of people in my position and I should be able to get it without his details.

I have found my mother and fathers marrage certificate listing so if I apply for that then it should give his birthday, unless he lied on that as well lol

Thank you everyone for your kind help and I must say very fast help.

My father did marry my mother but divorced when i was young and I never knew him or heard much about him.

Rose Thank you that is the one, I have Just found out that he died on my brothers birthday on Aug 29th but we didn't know what year and he was still living in Liverpool when he died.

How did you find those details so quickly I've been looking through pages and pages of records on here.

Thank you so much

Jeff,

This is all on Ancestry.

The birthdate given would be the one the informant gave.

Jeff

Dont know if you already have your Fathers service records, but as NOK you can obtain them. They are not online they are still retained by the MOD so not viewable anywhere

Here is the link to the Veterans Agency which explains all and you can download the application form, but they do cost £30--00 and take a while to get them

Looking at Rose's find there is a good chance the birth is the Wigan one above. I am assuming you do not know the names of any of his siblings for cross-checking against mother's maiden name?

I would put the birth date as given on that death record, though I agree with your wife, can't be necessary as otherwise nobody in your situation would ever be allowed abroad!!

Thanks George
I don't have my fathers military records I only have his and my grandfathers war medals, it was on one of my fathers medals I found his army number and from the Kings scroll and telegram that I found what ship my grandfather was serving on when he was killed, I did a search and found out about that fait full night, it was also on there that he was from Sydney so I'm really keen to find out if my grandfather was Australian or if he Emigrated and then returned to the UK, These things I would really love to know, I am goinging to Australia in 2011 and I will be making a trip to Canberra to see his memorial and also to see what they know of him if anything? I have a very good friend in OZ who has been helping me from that end.

So thanks for your info I will be acting on it and getting both their military records.

Thanks Jan

I know for definite that he had a sister called Audrey and a brother who I'm almost certain was called John but the name Peter springs into my mind for some reason but I am thinking that peter was Johns son if that makes any sense lol

Well Jan I just found out from my fathers widow that my father was born on a ship half way between India and the UK and she reconed that he had 2 birth certificates? How true this is I don't know?
Maybe it will state it on his UK birth certificate?

Does your stepmother know any more like siblings' birthdates, spouses etc? You've got to grill her while you still can and she might be the only person who knows this information.

I asked my step sister loads of questions to put to her and most of it came back blank so not much luck there I'm affraid Rose.

Our very good friend in Australia has also emailed the Australian War Memorial Research Centre for me and is waiting for a reply, there must be some record there as my grandfathers name is listed on the memorial at canberra.
were helping each other as she has family here in the UK.

If your grandfather was from Sydney then you may be able to find some info on his military record at the Australian National Archives
http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx

also NSW BMD's are on
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/searchHistoricalRecords.htm

What was your grandfather's name?
