Katie Report 26 Jul 2009 22:41

yeh i think when the day comes of when they died in november il give my Grt Grt Uncle a thought is that what he is to me if its my Grt Grandmas Brother cos i get confused??

BatMansDaughter

BatMansDaughter Report 26 Jul 2009 22:46

Yes he's you G G uncle.

My G Uncle died at the age of 19 in WW1, I have researched his short life. I was lucky to find his army papers and I also have loads of letters he sent his mother, they are just so sad.

My children have done topics on WW1 in primary school, they always use Georges things......... it's so nice to give him a voice again, I think he would be very proud!!!

Katie Report 26 Jul 2009 22:47

so was your g g uncle in the war with my g g uncle then? cos it would be a coincidence if they fought together side by side

BatMansDaughter

BatMansDaughter Report 26 Jul 2009 22:58

I doubt they fought together, my G G Uncle died in March 1917.

However after watching many WW1 programmes I would say that they were all brothers, that's how they classed themselves.

Many thousands of brave yound men died in WW1, 20'000 in 1 day at the Battle of Somme............... it doesn't bare thinking about!!!!!!!!

Just remember your G G Uncle and be proud that he gave his life for you and many other generations........... keep his name alive.

BatMansDaughter

BatMansDaughter Report 26 Jul 2009 23:13

Hi Katie,

think you've got about all th free sites......... however if you get stuck just ask on the boards and people will help to look for you.

You can have a 14 day free trial at ancestry.co.uk they'll want your debit card details though, if you want to cancel after the 14 days make sure you do it through them or they'll charge you.

Don't buy credits from GR...it'll cost you a fortune.........ancestry is soooo much better!!!

If I can help just let me know.
