Hi Kelly...the only thing you are doing wrong is believing what a transcriber ( a person who copied the records by hand) has incorrectly recorded...so it WILL come up on Ancestry incorrectly spelt...does that make sense to you ? Ancestry even have a facility for any members to note an alternative if they know something to be obviously wrong...Believe me I have found more than a few! So what the other members are saying is - Don't trust completely everything you may find recorded ..double check. |

Kelly, you're not thick and don't put yourself down. It's a common mistake. It's just that with genealogy you have to learn not to discount something because it's not spelled the same. Remember back then most people couldn't read or write and they didn't know if their name was mis-spelled. |
