Hi,
I'm trying to trace my family. My father was Harry Clough, died 13th June 1990, who had a twin brother called George, born 26th March 1921, died circa 1994. His father was George Henry Clough, born 2nd March 1890, died circa 1965, who married Beatrice Gooch, born May 1896 died 28th February 1955.

Sorry I don't know much, but I hope somebody can trace my family tree further.

Thanks,
David

I think so, thanks very much. How did you find out the names of his parents? How can I find out if he had any siblings? He was born in Leeds. Why is his age 10/12 and where did you find this information?
Thanks,
David

One other thing... If this was the 1891 census then how come he was 10 or 12 years old if he was born in 1890.

Carmen

Carmen Report 17 Jun 2008 22:43

10/12 on the census usually indicates that the child was 10 months old

Hi, thanks a lot. I think this is the right one, but how did you know which out of the people on that page got married. Also was George Jr's father called George Henry as well? On that 1901 census it said he was George Hay/Hy is that just short for Henry?

Thanks again Reggie and Richard,
David

Elliot Report 18 Jun 2008 17:37

Also, how do I find out if there were any children after 1901? Did they only do censuses up to then?
Thanks,
David

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 18 Jun 2008 21:31

MMN was not added to the GRO index until late 1911............your best bet is to wait for 1911 census to be released...........

The marriage is not 100%........but as his wife was Elizabeth, it's a reasonable assumption.

To be certain, buy the birth cert of a child of the marriage

Hi,
Is 1841 the earliest population census - how do I find information and records before then?
Thanks,
David

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 21 Jun 2008 10:32

Parish records............

Some are on the IGI.free on www.familysearch.org

But beware of 'submitted' records........often works of fiction.

'Extracted' records are from parish registers..........and are thus more likely to be correct

Hi,
I can only find George and Elizabeth on the 1891 and 1901 censuses - can anyone find them on the others please?
Thanks,
David

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 24 Jun 2008 14:33

1881 is free.........www.familysearch.org

But, if you have found them in 1891/1901, you must have Ancestry, so you should be able to look for them in the earlier censuses..........

Yeah I just signed up to the free trial. I'm just not very good at searching as I only started last week. I just thought you might be able to help as you found a lot of information for me before.

Thanks anyway,
David

This is the only one I could find in Leeds. The other one was in Cleckheaton and I found him on later censuses as marrying someone else.

Thanks

Have you entered the names in the quick search box at the top of the page?

Seem to be a couple of matches for George and Beatrice.

Hi,
I don't think they'd be on there as they weren't born until 1890 and 1896. I know that they got married on 28th April 1920. I think Elizabeth Walker's parents were John and Martha as one of you found that they got married in Hunslet and this one was born in Hunslet. It could be the other one who was born in Leeds but I don't know. Any advice?
Thanks,
David
