According to the 1871 census they lived at 132 DRURY LANE.

Hi I'm still stuck on Mary, could anyone please take a look at the 1871 census for me and see what it says for condition of marriage, I'm not too sure if it's a w suggesting she was widowed or it's just a squigly line, sorry I'm fairly new to all this, I don't want to be looking for a husband that never existed lol. Any ideas on trying to find her maiden name would be greatfully appreciated, assuming she was married.

Many thanks
Vicki

Pretty sure it is a W. By the way, love her occupation - Mangling woman!

The only way you will find her maiden name is by getting one of the children's birth certs. This could possibly be Alice's reg:

Births Mar 1854 (>99%)
Cooley Alice St Geo. E. 1c 445

Thanks Potty.
Do you know if the birth cert would show the father? I haven't got anything to go on really to order a marriage cert have I?

Thanks in advance
Vicki

Vicki

Yes, the birth cert should show the father's name and the mother's maiden name, which should help in finding a marriage.

Hi, I now have Alice's birth cert which shows her mother as Mary Louisa Lambert and father is William Cooley, she was born 27/02/1864 the address looks like 23 Brownlow St Giles.
I think I have now found a marriage but I'm not too sure, 1844 in St Martins, I'm stuck again can anyone please help. Glitterbaby you've got me wondering now if Mary was mistranscribed in the 1961 census that you posted for me previously.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Should I have really of posted this on the records board?

Many thanks Vicki

Thanks Dea,

That's the marriage I found, now I'm totally lost becuase in the 1971 census Mary's birth is estimated at 1930 making her about 41, so her age must be wrong or I have gone way off track as I doubt she got married at 14? eek please help.

Thanks

Thanks Dea,

I'm now wondering if I have the correct cert as in the 1971 census it estimates Mary's birth as 1930 making her about 14 when she married, looks like I've gone off track.

Please help.

Thanks
Vicki

It is not impossible for a girl to marry at 14 at that time.

Her husband William is quite a bit older and I suspect that as she got older, especially as she had been widdowed, Mary has knocked a few years off her age.

What else do you know about her?

How far have you got back (with certainty) - we can check from there.
