Hi, Could someone help me find Frederick W E Cope, born in Poplar 1921, married Constance Rose Munday in Poplar 1941. Can't find his death so he might still be alive. Does anyone know what happened to him?

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 29 Apr 2011 19:31

I Cannot spot a likely death in England or Wales before 2005 but I can spot that the couple had a child in Poplar in 1951. I cannot spot a likely death or marriage for the child so perhaps the family left the UK.

Hi, I believe Frederick William Ernest Cope, born 6 October 1921 was in the army and served in the 39 45 war, what happened to him? What regiment was he in? The child you speak of is my wife because Constance married again.

Joseph, are you still trying to sort this out? Your thread is marked as "answered".

Name: Frederick W E Cope
Mother's Maiden Surname: Clark
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1921
Registration district: Poplar
Registration County: London
Volume Number: 1c
Page Number: 787

There are a couple of likely siblings, have you gone down that route at all? Also, is his wife recorded as widow on the 2nd marriage cert?

Jonesey Report 20 May 2011 10:29

As Jan says a clue might be obtained from seeing what Constance's marital status was shown as on her second marriage. It would appear that at the time of her 2nd marriage she married using her formerly married name. That could indicate that at the time she might have been either a widow or a divorcee.

Hi, Constance Rose married again in 1952 to John Paul Crowley, they had four siblings, one being my wife. The first marriage produced no children that i can find. Soon after the first marriage Frederick W E Cope disappeared. What happened to him?

I am sending details of a possible daughter from the first marriage. The child Jonesey speaks of is not your wife if she is a Crowley, you haven't read what he put as the birth was before they married.

Also, you haven't answered the query about whether Constance was recorded as a widow on her 2nd marriage. However, as they married 1954 not 1952 I suspect you do not have the marriage cert?

Hi Joseph

I have looked everywhere I know for your Frederick with no lock I am sorry.

I am wondering if maybe during the war he stayed in the country he would have visited during that time .

I live in OZ so I will have a hunt around this neck of the woods,he could have gone to the US also. :-)

I think it's interesting that there is another registration for the marriage in 1954. I wonder why that is?

Hi Jan

Joseph did explain that a few posts back ...the first marriage was annulled due to Frederick's disappearance.

I can't find him here in OZ either, thought he may have stayed after the war as a lot did.
Suex :-)

Susan - I know I'm being dim but I still do not understand why that marriage was annulled! Not that it matters really I suppose.

Hi, Thanks everyone for your input so far. I will be ordering the marriage certificate for 1954, also the first marriage in1941. I will let you all know what I find. Please keep trying as I will. Its quite possible that he is abroad somewhere or that he has died. Its also possible that there are some divorce papers somewhere, I will look into this. Joseph

Hi, More onfo on Frederick William Ernest Cope. According to the 1941 marriage certificate to Constance Rose Munday, they married on Christmas day at Poplar Methodist Church and his occupation was recorded as being in the Royal Marines No P.O.X. 106064. Has anybody any ideas as what to do next. Where would I get his military history? Joseph.

Is it your wife who is a direct descendant? If so I think it's possible she can apply to see the records.

Scroll down and you will see contact details regarding Royal Marines.
