My grandfather was Albert Derrick and in the 1901 census he was listed as living in Camberwell, South London. He had two brothers - Ronald and Cyril and 4 sisters - Ethel, Winifred, Doris and Agatha. His father was called Francis and his mother Isabella but I cannot find anything more out about them and can go no further back even though it says his father was born in Somerset, Bath and I know there are many Derricks from that area but I can't make a connection!! Any help would really be appreciated! Thank you. |

Have you bought any certs. I would certainly get the marriage cert of Francis and Isabella ,and if one of the children was born after 1875 ,one of their birth certs too, to find Isabella,s maiden name. . |

This could be Isabella on the 1861 but you would need to check her fathers name against the marriage cert |

My father was William Cyril Derrick, born in Corfe Castle, Dorset in September, 1885 of Francis William Byrne Derrick, who was born in Timsbury, Somerset and married to Helena Isabella Dutton. I was born in 1935, and my brother Francis William a year later. I currently have two children (Catherine and John) and three grandchildren (Rory, Bryony and Beatrice). I don't think I ever met our 'Uncle Byrne' as he was known by us. He must have been your grandfather Albert Byrne Derrick, who was, as far as I know a teacher at Sutton Valence School in Kent. But I did know my other aunts and uncles: Ron, Winifred, Agatha and Doris (but not Ethel, who died before I arrived in England-I was born in Paris-though I did know her children, Madge and Joan). |
