trying to find my mums distant reltives mum and dad . her mum was called katrine may dewar , her daughter katherine beatrice dewar was adopted on the 17th april 1934, her ddopted parents werefrank william minshull and ruby . katherine was born 13th december 1933. if any body has any info please get in touch.

There will be no father on Katherine's birth cert so not sure how you think you can find him.

Katherine B may well have been born Dec 1933 but she wasn't registered until the March quarter of 1934.

Actually, there is one Whitehouse-Dewar birth after that 1939 marriage. Mike, if you're searching at FreeBMD, it isn't complete. The birth shows at Ancestry. I'll PM it to Lesley. And it would be nice to see Lesley asking for help with something like "please" (the people who have replied aren't people with info, they're unrelated other GR members who have offered help), and replying to it with something like "thank you".

The GR member who has that name in their tree has a surname that matches the marriage I found for the name.

and the daughter whose birth I found (I'm not putting it here because the passenger record is as much about a living person as the birth record is), on both trips. Two trips in the same year seems odd perhaps. Possibly they travelled first to investigate, then emigrated?

So the marriage I suggested for the daughter is most likely for someone of the same name born in 1926, perhaps. Although ... the birth details in the tree at GR match the Whitehouse-Dewar child, and the tree owner seems to be a child of that child's marriage ...

The only way to find out would be to obtain the birth and marriage certificates for the 1939 marriage above and the birth and marriage I sent you by PM, to see whether the 1939 marriage is your Katherine M and whether she is the mother on the 1940 birth certificate, and whether the father on the 1961 marriage certificate matches the father on the 1940 birth certificate.

I would do that before contacting any apparent relation via tree matches here at GR, for sure.

Yes, jax, that's what I said - the child matches the birth I PMed to Lesley.

Only problem is that the passenger records say "Albert" and the 1939 marriage is to Alfred ... but there's no other marriage to match those passengers.


Ah. The tree owner in question also has Katherine Dewar 1915 West Norwood in their tree. That does seem to clinch the connections, since the same tree owner has the child of the Dewar-Whitehouse marriage in their tree. So that person appears to be the grandchild of Katherine Sr., child of Katherine Jr's half-sibling.


I would prefer to delete some of this rather personal information, so Lesley, if you will confirm here that you have read and copied it, I will do that.

I did ask Ginny for a lookup for contact details for the person who seems to be Katherine's daughter's child. She has found contact info for someone who is pretty certainly the right person -- the grandchild of Katherine 1915.

i am a bit confused as the address i have katherine may dewar was 24, auchland hill west norwood so i dont know if she was born ther e or moved there in 1934, as katherine mays nephew has put the address as 3 earnest place west norwood so dont know which is wright.
