Trying to find any informattion on the above ,details limited ,born in Ireland ? 1856 , moved to liverpool and married 1885 , fathers name was Patrick ( blacksmith) . John married Mary Allen , had four sons , Dennis ( my grand-dad ) John , Michael and Patrick .

Hi,Just in case you don't have the marriage cert.

John Donaghue to Mary Allen, 1885,Q3,8b,480.

Toxteth Park,Liverpool.

So maybe on the 1911 census John gives his birth place as Liverpool? If he likes to swap his birthplace around and also his birth year it isn't going to be easy to trace him back??!!!

Tony... who were the witnesses on John and Mary's marriage certificate?

Tony...The 1881 Census shows Mary's parents Dennis and Margaret living at 54 Hughson St.TP...At No. 44 is John "Donougher" Lodger b Irel. laborer.aged 27yrs..appprox dob.1854.

The witnesses to the Mariage were Cathrine Allen , and Jeffrey Sheridan , the mystery continues I notice on his marriage certificate he and his best man don't sign , but place an X in place and his surname is spelt incorrect (Donaghue ) ,also on the 1891 census it states he was born in 1851 ,the 1901 census 1853 and marriage certificate 1856 ,he must be like the queen has a few birthdays .

They did get married in Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Toxteth .

Tony...I wouldn't worry too much about the X in the signature column for John and Jeffrey....also the spelling of John's surname...
The X only indicates he was unable to write his name..the spelling would be how the PP spelt the name....if John was also unable to read ...(very common) then he would accept what was written by the PP
