Find Ancestors

I am trying to find the family of Eleanor Mills i know she was born in march 1887 in medway. I have found a copy of her houselhold when she was 14 but dhe is listed as the daughter and her father is 74, i think this might be her grandfather, any help about who her parents are would be very greatful.

The birth cert would confirm her parents but the age of the wife is more important than the husband. There are an even spread of young children rather that one or two young ones where grandchildren are sometimes living with grandparents

yes i was just looking at that her mum was not that old to have a child at that age it is just wierd her dad would have had her at that age, was it common in them days to have a child at that age?

Not that usual but they presumably had a long and happy marriage. A former neighour married in his 50's and had children post his retirement

so does this mean he was in the navy in newzeland?

He looks to be in the Royal Navy on the ship Fawn that was anchored off New Zealand on the night of 7 April 1861

so...........he was in the navy when he was younger and had a family later in life?

The 1861 census was from Ancestry with other census records. The Navy took censuses aboard at the time the British census was taken

I have just found out they have records at the Maritime Museam in Greenwich so i will take a journey there to see if they can help i am booking an appointment.

I can't belive that my Grt Grt Grt Grandad was in the navy and went to new zeland amazing thanks guys

You really need Eleanor's birth cert first which should confirm the parents and give you her mother's maiden name. I can't see a James Mills born 1823 in Lambeth on Family Search at the moment. The 1861 census actually lists James as married, so I was wrong that he delayed his marriage!! With her mother's maiden name it will be much easier to find a marriage
