Trying to find Charles Errington on 1851 (poss), 1861, 1871 or 1881 census. Is there any reason why a family would not be on a census? He was born in 1851 either in London or in the Cotswolds where he later lived. We know the family were in Holborn in around 1871 and that he married Alice Boyfield there in June 1872. In 1873 I think they were then in Wick Hill, Gloucestershire and in 1881 in Alton, Hants. Later in Leeds. |

How do you know names of his parents if you have not found him on any earlier census? |

I have info from an old family tree. I'd just like to back it up with census records. Think his father was a steward with London City Council and a Coachman at some point. Think this info was from my granny who had all of it in her head but she is no longer here to confirm!!!! |

I can't believe how quickly you guys find these things out!!!! They moved around London a bit didn't they!!!! No wonder I was having problems pin pointing them!!! Any joy with the other census? Or did they disappear? |

Hm - I couldn't see them on the other census. I'll have to have another look. I def couldn't find them on 1881 as I have just had another look at that one. |

I believe this is them in 1881, in which case you've got the wrong John Errington who married Alice Boyfield. |

FreeBMD doesn't have a marriage of John Errington to Alice anywhere between 1871-1881 except for one in Gateshead, Durham and her name was Alice Wells. |

Ah thankyou Maureen/ Glitterbaby. You seem to have done it again with those last few. When I had put in surname variants it hadn't thrown up Evrington. I am sure that is the right family in 1881 and that must go with Charles in Devon possibly there overnight as a coachman. We didn't have Alice being born in Lincoln so that's new info. The 1891 one must be right as well - pity about the dodgy placenames!!! The place Charles was born seems to vary on every census!!! |
